yeah.. i was wondering about some little persnoalized tune ups that could just make the car a lil louder and sound more aggresive without damaging any part of the car and without loosing AnY power i know someone knows so come right out
I've never done that, but I have left my intake box open for a while when I was waiting for my AFM adapter to arrive. It sounds very loud and deep at 3000+ rpms. My SRI actually dampened the sound a bit, but it's more bearable now.
Well the new metal intake was longer than my stock intake by about half an inch after I cut it so before I put the conical filter on, the stock intake box stuck out a bit which is why I had a loud engine noise. If you don't want to spend money, do the hole cutting mod. If you don't mind spending $30 making a custom intake pipe and $15 for filter like I did, you can get the same results and maybe better airflow/looks.
If you leave it open it's gonna mess up the engine dude~
Indy cars do it... Drag cars do it... It won't kill your engine as fast as you are lead to believe. It could take over a year or even more (depending on location). I have run mine without a filter many times and it's at 208k miles right now.
You can widen the tip with a pipe widener, that will give it a little deeper tone. Also wider pipes (may cost some performance depending on how big you go).

The hole in the intake box works but I don't run without a filter. We did the hole in the intake box on our '91 Accord. When we put the short-ram intake on, I couldn't tell the difference in sound so the hole is nice and free.
but wouldn't the down side of cutting a hole in your stock air box, be having your engine sucking in more hot air from the engine bay???
if you want more noise you can remove the resonator in your stock air box. i remember something toysrme posted a while ago about making your own cai by removing your stock air box resonator and doing something else i forgot.

Removing the bottom expansion box doesn't make that much of a difference in my experience. Hot air from the engine... meh... not like it really matters all that much. Chances are if you're doing this mod, you don't have much if anything else done to your car, so what's a little heat? Besides, you ever touch your intake hose after driving your car for 30min or so.. it's not cold.
