Valve Stem seal replace HELP !!!

Hi, Everyone,

My 95 Camry V6 1mz-fe engine is an oil burning engine. A puff of blue smoke comes out from tail pipe while cold start.

I replaced my spark plugs yesterday and found one of them has a lot off black carbon buildup.

I am going to replace my 1mz-fe engine valve stem seal. I have several questions:

1. Do I have to undo camshaft to replace valve stem seal of 1mz-fe? Are there any rocker arms inside? I do not think so.
2. I know I do not need to uninstall cylinder head to replace valve stem seal. Then do I need a special valve spring compressor to undo the keeper? I believe the standard valve spring compressor is designed for undo keeper after remove cylinder head. Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

1. Yes you have to remove the cams. There no rockers arms.

2. I've heard of special tools to do what you said, but I don't know much about them.

To remove the valve springs with the cylinder head(s) unbolted, you need a overhead valve spring compressor. It looks like a C-clamp. Sears has them for about $25 or so.

The other type of valve spring compressor will not work, as the springs are within the head (ie: their not exposed).

Thanks, 88LE,

Does any one know which valve spring compressor is the right one for 1mz-fe without remove cylinder head?

This is the first time I will do DIY replace parts inside engine.

Thanks.

Kevin

Try asking some mechanics at your local Toyota dealership.
