this may sound stupid...but i've VERY serious about doing a 5spd swap. One question, how would you rate how hard it was to install from 1 to 10. 1 being easy, 10 being hard as crap.
u got 5sfe rite?? hehe it shouldnt take u longer than 6 hours to do for a novice... re and re... mine was done in about that time... (mine is same as urs 5sfe) on ratko's might be different cos engine bay is a bit tighter...

humpty
ok, thanks. again.....anoter stupid question, but is there anywhere i can get "instructions" or a list of EVERYTHING i would need to do the swap?

It's virtually identical except the tranny itself. All trannies have basic parts that are required...clutch, master cylinder, pedals, shifter, pressure plates and some minor parts that are specific to the 1MZ and Ratko's hurdles and dilemas that he encountered. If you have any idea how a M/T works you should be able to figure it out with alittle bit of help.
Just a few tips I can offer after helping SBC through his entire swap;
-when salvaging the old tranny, get as much as you can from the donor car. shift cables intact, flywheel bolts, tranny mounts.
-keep in mind there may be "hidden" costs if misc parts need to be replaced and delay the the entire process. In the case of Ratko, he had probs with the input shafts and ECU. Jeff's went pretty smooth except for some minor things (tricking A/T ECU to accept lack of signals after swap. ustomizing TRD short shifter)
I strongly suggest you take the time out to visualize the entire process from the beginning to the end. Make a detailed list of EXACTLY what it involves and what parts are needed for each step. Most importantly, find a mechanic that knows what they are doing and talk it over with them and get their expert opinion.

Ok, thank you. The mechanics i have are VERY good, they know what they are doing, and have done it before. I'll just have to goto a junk yard, and get all the stuff i need. This of course, will be all bought during the winter, and will be a spring project
in the 4 cyl i didnt have to trick the ecu to anything basically just have to install and rewire a bunch of stuff the annoying thing was the o/d light kept blinking i just left the switch in the car and pushed the o/d (from automatic) to the on position... then i also put the ECT to on so i keep the PWR LIGHT ON cos its cool hehehehe then last wiring the reverse lights .. i didnt install my clutch safety swtich... should be an easy chore for ur mechs.. if they are doin it 6 hours or less is ur time... might need some mounts though... cos a/t and m/t mounts are a bit different.. make sure u have all the mounts.. well in my case i had to order from toronto but if u've got a dealer that had parts then no waiting i had to wait 2 days for mine though... that's about all the probs i had... plus cutting my brake pedal.. ( didnt like the 5spd brake pedal too far from the gas pedal) the a/t is so so close about 1 inch apart maybe less hehehee so i just cut it to fit... then put a nice pedal (momo) on it done deal... if u got any more probs just holla at me... i didnt really write any on my install mostly jeff and ratko just asked and i just tried to remember wat i can but they did a good job of doing theirs!! u can ask jeff "sbc" cos he's got a 4 cylinder as well ...
