Ripp Mods header rusting?

hey guys, I bought a set of ripp mod headers for my gen 3 back in the group buy... I havent installed them yet but I saw a thread in the buy/sell forum where one guys headers were very rusted. I know those were bosal headers but I think theyre close to the same thing...

anyways, any of you guys with the headers have trouble with rust? Im really worried about my investment rusting out and looking like crap in a year. Does this happen to Ripp Mod headers? Is there anything i can do to prevent this? Thanx.

well, dont know about rusting. but if you want to try to prevent it, get some extreme high heat clearcoat spray and coat it.

His headers rusted because he had the car without the hood for a while, I think.

steel headers rust. ...even if they're painted.
the only way they don't is if they are stainless steel, ceramic, powder coated or ceramic coated.

i believe the Rippmods header is stainless, isn't it?

^^^ Nope I stuck a magnet to mine the other day and it stuck. I to thought they were stainless steel but I was wrong. I hope mine do not rust.....so I am going to see if I can't find some high temp clearcoat.

thats odd that a magnet won't stick to it ... steel, stainless steel and iron (commonly used header/manifold material) is all magnetic due to its iron content. Aluminzed steel is the only material i'm not sure about and I can't see rippmods using aluminized steel to make their header. ???

Brett...... I'll call you tonight, I just got back from cali last night.

My downpipe's chrome is coming off, but that's just from crap on the road. I'm thinking of just removing it and spraying it down with a couple thick coats of engine enamel (ceramic based).

For those curious: The header is ceramic coated. I don't believe it's stainless though (I could be wrong).

The Bosal and Rippmods header are far different. Have any of you guys actually compared the two?

The Ripp header has the o2 sensor sitting MUCH lower than the bosal, for starters.

its an unfortuante fact that headers will oxidise and/or rust over time. even stainless, its jus slower (stain less!). but try protect it with protective coating. I coated my headers with HPC, it looks good too!
