4th Generation "Bearing Thingy" on Front Shocks?

I was in hk looking at TRD stuff and specifically shocks. They told me that if I wanna replace my shocks, I might as well get a pair of some kinda bearings, which is located above the front shocks. They said my gen4 tend to have this problem after 5 years of driving, that the bearings cracked, and would have "krunck" sound when I go over speed bumps and stuff, it would be very noticeable. Well after I got back to Canada and drove for few days, I started noticing the sound that they've mentioned. So what is it called that I have to replace? I have 99 Camry LE.

Did they mean 'bushings'? Does it sound like a metal on metal sound? Usually the rubber bushings get old and lose their elasticity and even fall apart or off. They are pretty cheap to fix.

They'll cost around $35 a piece. It is called a bearing and it's located between the strut and the strut mount.

And can be seen by removing the plastic caps in strut mounts under hood. Should be full of grease.

^ yes and no....we're talking about hte bearings here, which can be found INSIDE the strut mounts, which they are talking about in the other thread....

you have to buy the strut mount and the bearings separately...

no, it's something you can do yourself....generally speaking, if you're going to get new strut mounts you spend the little extra $$$ to change the bearings too
