You could go with this or you could go with that

So I was inquiring the price of an engine (5s-fe) rebuild + 3 angle + port/polish

The guy didn't really want to do it (said he was not equiped), but offered a 3s-gte turbo'd that is apparently "ready to rock"

I'm a noob about engine mechanics, I know i'd lose displacement. But a built up engine would be more powerful (my dads boat is more powerful ).
I asked about age, price, power, when was all this done to the motor, what all was done and how many miles it had.

What else do I need to know or look out for? Does it even fit my 96 without major mod?
As far as 4cl goes, I'm not opposed to working with the 5s-fe. but if it's more bang for my buck to drop a built motor in, i'll do it and focus on the audio. Please offer feed back and not a "search" referance. I'll be reading too. Thanks.

The 3S GTE is a very potent motor, arguably one of the best turbo 4 bangers ever produced. It has huge aftermarket support and potential for 400-500 hp which is a nice improvemnet over the stock 210-245 hp which is nice amount to begin with. It will take a new tranny, (E153) and motor mounts which I believe Justin (Wraith) will sell you. It will cost but its the only way to make huge power in a Camry besides swapping in a 1MZ-FE or dumping huge money into your 5S FE. I am planning on doing a 3S swap in September after considering what I really want out of my car. It is going to be close to $4000 with nearly free labor and a JDM motor that is being obtained for a very very low price. (I don't know the details of how it is so cheap and thats how I want to keep it). Driveshafts and hubs need some mixing, V6 hubs with V6 brakes and MR2 turbo midshaft seems to be the way to go I believe. Ask Wraith if you really want to know...

What is a good price range for the motor? And what kinda "cost" am I looking at with the tranny and mounts?

What should I consider when rebuilding the 5s-fe? What i mean is, once they have it appart what would the most "potent" thing to address for performance?

Seems the connecting rods and wrist pins are weakest. Next is the pistons and rings, headgasket, ARP headstuds need to be used to. Don't skimp. It will be expensive. A 3SGTE from Japan with around 40K miles will be around 2k and a tranny is about $500-$1000 if you look hard. The mounts are the next big thing, cheap if you make them, about $600 from Wraith I think. Then wiring will be a chore but its all worth it IMO. The reason JDM engines are so cheap is that in Japan, cars must be recertified every few years so its just cheaper to buy a new car. therefore there is an abundance of cheap low milage motors that are then exported all over the world.

who sells new or rebuilt manual transmissions for the 5SFE?

Since the Toyota Dealership quoted $2600 i was wondering if there were cheaper options.
