Stuck plug wires..

I've had it with Advance Auto parts brand plug wires. They can take their lifetime warranty and blow it out their ass. This will be the second time I take them in for exchange in less than two years. I went to remove them and the plastic tube that the plug sits in broke off from the wire. Then, when I realized I needed to remove the entire set to exchange, the same thing happened on another wire. I did as instructed and twisted the boots around to break the seal before I pulled (gentley) and it still broke off. I'm going to try get my money back and spend a little extra on OEM wires because this shit is annoying.

any tips on how to get these tubes out? I tried plier but I just broke part of the tube off. I can spin them, but they're just not pulling out. I can't get a socket down there to take the plug out.

I think rusty9 means "dielectric grease".

A long needle nose pliers should work to remove the pieces still left on the plugs. If that won't work, my next step would be one of those hook things that are like a dental pick. You may have to duct tape it to a long slotted screwdriver to make it reach down to the bottom of the piece on the plug. Just tape it on firmly.

Good luck with the problem.

yeah...thats it...

silicone grease or if you want to be all fancy pants "dielectric grease" any good set of wires should come with a little tube or packet of it.

anyway, to be more specific, youd want to put it in the hole where the plug would go and a bit around the outside of the rubber on the end piece that goes down on in. next time you change them they will pop right out. another benefit to the grease is protection from corrosion.

i actually had a car that had the same problem. i wound up using a coat hanger that i straightened out a bit and made a sharp bend at one end to hook under the rubber bit to pull it out.

good luck

I took my needle nose vise grips to it, and pulled it out pretty easily, just had to find them

Coated the replacemtns with dielectric in the hole and wehre it seals against the valve cover, hopefully this will be hte last itme they break.
