Alarm Question..........

We just picked up our New/used 2002 Camry SE. My question is if you lift the hood, on the front right corner under the hood (opposite side of the battery) is a pin switch that looks like it is for an alarm. When the hood is closed the switch is depressed.

Also to the left of the steering column is a small red push switch that illuminates when pressed and the car is started. When the car is turned off it is not illuminated anymore. I haven't had time to play with it yet, but is not standard for the car you can tell the push button switch was added later.

Any ideas how all this works or is related? I have never had an alarm on a vehicle before so I am not sure how this stuff works.

The pin switch under the hood is definitely part of a alarm system.

The small red switch might be part of a push button start system. Can't say for sure without seeing it.

Thank you for replying...........I have learned that with the button depressed, shutting the doors and locking it, that the light within the button starts flashing........
