Well today I planned to paint my exhaust manifold heat shield.....after i removed it....i was suprised that manifold itself doesnt look too bad....so i've thought that i should just paint the manifold and leave the heat shield off....for a not so stock look (ricey huh? ) anyways.....the only down side i can think of is that the hood and engine bay might be a bit hotter than usual without the heat shield. Anyways i would love to show u guys how great the paint came out to be.....but i dont have a camera right now.....only a phone camera and u know how the quality on those are...
I drove around all day with mine off, no problems. I also painted it today too!
I would keep it off, but mine needs some serious cleaning and I cant take it apart now. Just dont touch it.

look really nice what kind paint did you use? or i use any kind of paint?
thanks
for that heat shield I think it is more to protect the exhaust manifold than to protect the engine bay. With that hot exhaust manifold right in the front like that it is unprotected from water. Driving 70mph in a downpour would have water hitting one side of the pipes. That kind of massive heat difference would likely cause the pipes to crack.

OMG Pheonix......ur engine bay looks ALMOST the same as mine!!!!!......for example..... my ram intake sets on the filter box just like urs!! and i have an Autocraft battery as well!
I wonder if the shield was removed if the air flow and cooling would affect the O2 sensing? Anyone know?

The shield doesnt do a good "cooling" job so I dont think it will affect the sensor. Its just for protection, so the shield will crack instead of the piping.
It stays hot for just aslong as the exhaust does... trust me, I have 3" long burn from it today, its lovely

Yeah lol. I took the first part of the shield off in the morning and I was going to do the other if I liked how it turned out.. Well the engine was just turned off and I tried to get the farthest down bolt and.. yeah I wound up using leather gloves after that.
You'll be ok leaving it off. You could just paint your current one, as was posted though. I painted mine before I got my header, just because I had some extra black exhaust paint lying around.
Here's a pic:
But just so you know, if you paint it, you're not fooling anyone but yourself. The stock exhaust is clear as day just that... STOCK. It's pretty much just a huge hunk of cast iron with holes drilled out of it.

It's the rippmods 4-2-1 header, I have it installed with my rippmods chromed downpipe and a flowmaster hushpower II with an 24" flowtech purple hornie (glasspack) acting as a resonator with my side-exit exhaust.
If you want, check it out on my CD page. I have pictures of everything up.
