Battery issues on 99 Camry, 4 cyl.

Alright, so my wife's Camry is having issues with the battery. It was drained so I pulled it out to charge. When the charge was complete, I reinstalled it. As soon as I hooked it up, I checked the voltage and it was loaded down to about 10.5 volts. That's with the key off. When I disconnect the cables, the voltage goes back to 13.2 Volts. Any ideas??? Thanks.

From what I remember of batteries, any time you hook it up to something the voltage will drain some. But the battery life isn't changed by that.

Don't quote me on that though.

Does it run fine even with low voltage? And have you tried checking what the voltage is while it's running?

It should have a slight drop, but not that much. According to the manual, it should read about 12.5 with the key off. When I did get it jump started, the voltage was at 14.4 so that was good. Without a jump all I get is a clicking.

I looks like one of the cells may be bad. Even with a big draw like the headlights, the battery should not drop in voltage like that. It can appear good with a meter and show it's true form with a bigger load. Best to have it load tested at a shop.

If ends up being ok, then you'll have to start looking for a short, by pulling fuses.
