Lemon Camry?!

Hi all, I purchased a 2000 Camry in mid June... It has 75,000 miles on it. I even asked the salesman if it was a good idea to get a warrenty for it. He said I shouldn't because it was a toyota and it should be good for years to come. Well this last week we have been hearing a noise, almost like a grinding/ticking noise. At first it sounded like the altenator. Well I just got done replacing the altenator and its still there. So now I have no clue where its coming from. I am starting to think it may be coming from the exuast manifold but it appears to becoming from the passenger side of the engine. So now I have to figure out what this noise is. I am like stuck paying payments on a car I have to get worked on. This sucks. So like how much do you guys think it would cost to have someone look at it? Expensive? What would you guys do in this situation? I bought it as is from the dealer.

Have you checked the drive belt tentioners? My girl friend's 2000 Corolla LE had a similar problem.

I have yet to check that... But I just got off the phone with a mechanic friend that thinks it may be the water pump. Its a 4cyc and its directly underneath the altenator...

hey at a toyota dealership you can get a tune up and they will check for anything that may be wrong with your car. if its small enough they may even knock it out for you for free.

I had a similar problem, I think, check the timming belt idler pulleys, if your 4cly is any like the 3S-FE then it will have two (upper-tensioner, lower-regular old idler).
And, by valves do you just mean adjusting them, or something more?

thanks a bunch for all the advice! it is really helping me! I am starting to think it has something to do with the timming belt area... My friend is gonna look at it this saturday. If that doesn't help I am gonna take it too the dealer for them to give me a tune up... Once again thanks a bunch
