Australia Acceleration lag

This problem has been happening ever since getting a 200000Km service in which the timing belt, sparks & leads were changed. Car starts up no problems in the morning but has very bad acceleration requiring me keep flooring the accelerator. Sometimes you can put your foot down and nothing much happens. As soon as the car temp gets to a particular point, the car accelerates absolutely fine! Past that point no problems until I park the car for a few hours and it cools down again. Any ideas as this drives me crazy for 2 minutes every morning and even cyclists beat me off the lights

Pull out your EFI fuse for 30seconds and put it back in. Then drive hard.

Kinda wierd....the exact same thing happened with my 3vz-fe......u could floor it and it would actually slow down! I got mine rebuilt....its still not dun yet since december...complicated but ill let ya kno how it goes... I pretty sure a big part of it is because of the age of the gaskets...they dont seal as tight since they basically burned and or rotted away with its age. This allows things maybe to leak or just not get as good compression who knows.....as the engine warms the metal expands and tightens the seals and acceleration is restored....thats the only thing i came up with. Mine was actually at 200000 miles tho when it did it. By mid may it should be running and hopefully the full rebuild should correct this if not thats just kinda f*d up but sure eliminates a lot of causes for u to figure out

Just seems strange that I didn't get this problem before the timing belt was changed. Must be coincidence though as it runs OK when it's warm.

my timing belt was changed at 130000 miles so maybe there is a link...maybe mine was getting old and urs wasnt put on right....a timing belt will expand and contract with heat dunno why that would effect it though

Could also be a faulty ECT sensor. If the coolant is too cold as detected by the ECU, you will have acceleration anamolies.

I'd look into the sparkplugs they used. I don't know if this is it, but I should imagine that they could've easily put cheapies in that aren't agreeing with your car.

I know Bosch vs Denso/NGK is a world of a difference, and I can only imagine what some generics would be like.

Also check your timing too, perhaps they didn't time it so well when they changed your timing belt.

mmm not really in this case...if it was a 93 maybe but in 94 and above models they switched to self heated sensors for where it counts like the O2 sensors and such. Reguarldess of that though it shouldnt matter, as long pretty much everything is in the right place the computer will operate in an closed loop mode making the engine run on default optimal settings until all the sensors are up and operating and/or the engine is at proper operating temp.

When they initially put the timing belt on, they screwed it right up. The car had no power yet the mechanics said it was fine as they had driven it up a mountain pass nearby. Had to laugh as it wouldn't even drive up the road without straining. They took it back and eventually said they had made a mistake and re-installed the timing belt. Fixed the problem when hot but not cold. If the timing is off, can this make a difference when cold or would I experience problems all the time?

Have now reset the EFI fuse and am hoping that it will solve the problem. Won't know until the morning but it already seems to have given the car a little more power. Probably just dreaming!

If it does turn out to be the timing, I'm not really sure where I stand as I've already spent enough $ and don't want to go back to the garage that changed it in case they kill the whole damn engine. Ah, the fun of owning older cars.

Cool

If it's the timing, go back to the garage because THEY are the ones that fucked it up when they put the belt on.

Their responcibility to fix it for free.
