^ we all know I made my stock ports smaller to have a higher velocity intake flow.
blah blah blah
High velocity porting benifits from more camshaft overlap time. (intake and exhaust valves opena t the same time)
I just slipped my exhaust camshafts 1 tooth and oh, holy shit... Huge power increase. (gtech it later)
What I want, is for somebody with a 3vz-fe to slip their exhaust camshaft one tooth.
What I want to find out, is if the stock profiles benifit from it.
Tools needed:
one 10mm socket - 1/2" drive
wratchet - 1/2" drive
socket extension between 3 and 6 inches - 1/2" drive
You will also want a small torque wrench (Unless you just want to guess putting the cams back down... That's a nono tho!)
Time to do this is if you've ever actually taken a camshaft out of your heads, and you have a driver (cordless drill with a socket chuck, or air tools) : 10m.
Never seen what's under the valve cover: 1/2 hour to hour. I'll walk you through it on the phone (my dime) if I have too.
Anyone eligeable but Sean (McElligott) or Luckynumber5. As Sean ash the turbo now, and porting, and luckynumber5 has porting too.

However, I'm really curious as to what happens to the stock cam/port profiles.

i should finish putting my car back together mid may after i get home from school, after i break in the new rebuilt, modified engine ill try it and let u kno how well it works with the xtra porting and a bunch of other stuff
damn no one is hooking up toysrme today huh? i cant help u cuz i got a 1mz. however, my buddy is coming by in a bit and if i can convince him we can use his car. its got the right motor but very high mileage(210K miles). i been dying to use my new click-type torque wrench too. plus i got a cell phone so it wouldnt cost anything to call ya.
toysrme... if you dont want to pay for phone charges, maybe just take pics of how to do it and pm or im it to me ... cause i'd love a little more power!

His engine pinged after a knock sensor went out, so we won't really know what this did until he gets a new knock sensor.
If I understand correctly, he retarded the camshaft pin by 1 degree which in theory would allow his high velocity porting to take advantage of a faster enter and exit of air/fuel mix through the cylinders.
I'm not sure how this could help non-ported engines, but it could possibly amplify the performance of any intake mods done on the car?
ekim, it's likely different on the 5S-FE from the 3VZ-FE. what he did was slip a tooth on the camshaft's inner sprocket to get over-lap, meaning the intake valves begin opening while the exhaust valves are open.
I'm going to check once I get my new cams and count camshaft sprocket teeth and calculate out how many degrees slipping a tooth (or few) would equate out to. It may or may not be worthwhile to see if a shop would grind/hardweld the sprocket to enlarge it (valvecover providing) and grind out more teeth, allowing finer adjustment.
CrawlingEye I don't have my front valve cover on, if someone reminds me tomorrow afternoon, I'll count them.
I use to know at one point... It's insane tho, somewhere around 20*, +/- 5*.
