A/C acting strange???

My A/C works for several weeks and then stops working (light on button blinks) for several weeks then starts again. Very strange. Took it to the dealer and they wanted $1300. to replace compressor, clutch, wire harness, etc. This can't be the cause, can it? (System is fully charged). I did a search and this seems to be a common problem. Anybody have any suggestions? Can I repair this myself?

When the dealer thinks the clutch is bad, do they automatically replace the compressor too since they have to take it all out anyway? It seems like they never want to replcae one or the other.

I would do that if I knew that was the problem. When I have someone turn the ac on and off while I listen and look at the clutch, there is no action there. This might be a clutch problem or an electrical problem. The intermittent nature points to electrical. No?

I had the same problem, but for me it was just that my system had in too much freon and also had oil in it. So all they did was vacuum out the system and refill, and it has been good up to this day. Maybe you have a diff. prob though.
