need some advice..

I am getting tired of spending money on my toyota camry 1987 (on monday 4/18, $700 for new tires, front rotors and brakes), Last december, water pump $600, in November new struds $600.
They told me yesterday that I new some new tie rod (cost $300).

Well I am thinking about the new camry 4 cylinders...

What do you guys thinks about that???

thanks

Why would you need a new tie rod, unless it's bent?

The water pump price seems high (should be $100) unless someone installed it for you (3 hours labor).

DIY is the way to go on an older car.

if the tire rod is loose, you usually need a new tie-rod...but $300USD is REALLY expensive tho....

the part itself should be around $80 or so if I remember correctly....then there's labor, which is actually not THAT easy depending on which tie-rod too...

But in USD, it should be less than $200

All those repairs are regular maintenance, nothing out of ordinary, so I won't call it repair. Now if you WANT a new car thats a different story!

time to sell the sucker.. no hard feeling but i used to invest lots of $ in a 160k gen 3. oil leak, one after another, radiator leak / replacement. invested 2k in the gen3 within a year. so i said F*** with it and bought a gen4. still have the gen3 around but it's a secondary car doing 3-4 miles a day (max). the gen4 is reliable and is not asking for $$ yet.

sometimes, it's better to cut loss and invest the $$ in the new car as opposed to the old car which u will never recoop the $$ back.
my 2 cents
