Okay, well I have a 99 Camry LE V6, and I want to turbo it. Don't knock me here, I know that Camrys aren't supposed to be fast cars, but I want to do something original and I like my Camry so I don't want to get rid of it. I'm still a newbie to turbos and all that, so I need help and advice on what all I should buy so that putting a turbo on my car is possible. I also have no clue how to put on a turbo so I need help with that too. I know I have to get new pistons and rods, etc. but I don't know eactly what to get. My car is an automatic transmission, so I'll need to know how to swap in a manual transmission. If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it, I'm 100% serious about this, so please don't think I'm some stupid kid. My goal is to get 400+ whp between 15-25 psi. If at all possible, I'd really like to get up around 500 whp, but if that's not pratical then over 400 would be just fine. If anyone could give me detailed advice on this, I'd realy really apreciate it. Thanks.

why go with a turbo and have to do all of the custom work involved...TRD makes a supercharger for your car....though the 400 whp bit is a little more like a pipe dream....find posts by Tony the Tiger....he did the turbo and knows MZ's like no ones business

TRD supercharger only let you run at stock boost(5psi) right?

BTW, isn't there a guy in Hawaii that also has that Turbo set up in his V6 solara?

Turbos have more potential.

And tho Tony could help a little, he has a gen 3. This sort of thing hasn't ever been done on a gen 4 so a lot of this stuff he'll be on his own. We can try to help you out but nobody has first hand experience.

I think you can run higher. You have to get another pulley and stuff but i remember somebody saying they were running like 7-8 psi.

smaller pulleys are available and will yield more HP...

Just wait till Shiftgate comes out with em..they will be out by summer according to one of the head guys, itll have everything u need supposedly...im waiting on the 3vz-fe one

With a supercharger, you can go as high as 6lbs without changing the internals. You need to upgrade the fuel delivery, otherwise the engine runs lean. Also, the knock sensors will blow. Supposedly the whine from the supercharger is close enough to the same note for knocking and sets them off. The URD kit helps, but you need to upgrade the fuel lines to the fuel rails. They are restrictive. Even after the URD kit installed, the engine still ran lean. Once I added Jim's fuel upgrade, The car started running rich. Many who have gone to 7lbs have had problems with internals.

No one offers a bolt on turbo kit so first thing you need to do is find a local shop that you can trust, who can custom build one for you. Next you need to get your bottom end built because the stock rods and pistons arent boost friendly. Finally you are going to need to take care of fuel control which will also mostly be custom. Its not terribly difficult to turbocharge these motors but you need to know what your doing or have the money to pay someone who does.

My best advice is to get searching on this site as well as Solaraguy.com. Even though you dont own a Solara, a lot of the same principles apply since both cars share the 1mz-fe.

Well I definately don't have enough money to pay a shop to do any labor, I'm planning on doing everything myself. Does anyone know what turbo I should get that can produce 400+ hp, and do you think that running 15-25 psi would get me up to that much horsepower? Also, what engine parts from a Supra can I use on my Camry? I heard the injectors will fit right in, so I was interested in taking parts off of a Supra and using them on my Camry. Thanks for the help.

your not going to find alot of "Drop in parts" and your gona be looking at around a t66 i belive tony has that .. supras had a t26. i cant rember about the injectors, and you can makeshift the fuel pump if you need to for the more fuel.

since your prolly not going to find parts from the prototype 1mz-bg your going to have to custom make your turbo headers. so your going to need a welder and some welding skills, or a compitant shop to make it. dont cheap out on having a shop make the headers, they have to be EQUIL length to the turbo from the front to the back. and your going to have to redo the exaust.

do a google search because i think i read that they can use the rods from the 22r with a lil mod to it and those rods are forge and cheap from a junk yard.

look at an aftermarket fuel regulator now (search the site)

aftermartket fuel management (search the site)

and if your gona be throwing down that much hp look at the big break kit we made on the site (supra roters to fit)

also the tranny you want is the E151
