3rd Generation Hit and Run :(

Im coming back from my second job at around 10pm and on my way home when I run into traffic on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway right before the Manhattan bridge. I come into some traffic and everyone begins to slow down. The car in front of me comes to a stop and I slow to a regular stop. About 3-4 seconds after coming to a complete stop; I find myself on my side laying across the center console of my car (Thank god I had my belt on). When I come to and realized what happened, I see the Ford Econoline 350 plastered onto my rear. Thats when I realized that I was rear-ended by this schmuk. Theres no shoulder at this point so I try to move ahead while signaling to the guy to follow me to a place where we can exchange information. As soon as I did that, he gets into the middle lane and tries to bolt away in his piece of shit Van.
Traffice starts to loosen up and he started to drive faster but I stayed right behind him. First thing I did was to make sure I wasn't too hurt and dialed 911 while following him. I told the officer that I was hit by this car and hes trying to drive away. I gave them the license number, make of the vehicles, and color and they told me to stop following him and pull over to the shoulder and wait for police. Which I did.
I pulled over all alone and gave them my position on the highway. They told me to wait for the police which I did for about an hour until they finnally arrived. I got a look at the damage to my vehicle and was surprised. I know that the rear bumper of the Gen 3's is like a tank. My car was rear-ended twice before and never recieved damage. But this guy who hit me last night damaged me pretty bad. He pushed my entire bumper in about 5-6 inches. Both tail-lights are destroyed. Trunk isn't bent (thank god) but dosn't close any more. The rear of the car including the chasis has been pushed in. I have to get it pulled and straightened out. Basically the car will never be the same again thanks to this idiot.

I took some pics with my cell phone which I will post later whenever I get the chance. I felt fine after the accident but recently my neck has been hurting. I dont know if its from the accident or just from me sleeping in a wierd position last night.

Now onto the insurance aspect of this mess:
I went to my insurance company (Allstate) and it turns out my father only has liability insurance and not collision. They told me that they basicaly want nothing to do with this and its entirely up to me to follow up on this on my own. I have to some how get the info of this creep from the Police Officers tommorrow as well as my report and go to him myself asking for the money to fix the damage recieved by him. All Allstate had to say was "Well, if their nice they will give you the money." Thanks Allstate. You worthless pieces of crap. Why do I even pay you? Oh thats right; because I'm forced to.....

In Conclusion:
I did get some info about this guy from the officer who did an on the spot search. His name is Juan Lopez and hes from Corona Queens. He was driving a WHITE FORD Econoline 350 with New York State license plates: CTL 3492. If anyone has ANY info on this guy, please contact me.

Thanks for hearing my rant. Sorry for it being so long.

dude that sucks...would ur insurance cover medical and whatnot cuz i would milk the neck thing for some f'in money...

don't worry about it being long....

about 2 yrs ago and when i had just had my car a month a big U-Haul truck merged into me with his front wheel (u know how they have they're lug nuts sticking out of the wheel?) and that basically ground a 2-3inch crater in my drivers door and went about 100 ft before pulling over, the bastard almost didn't and i was still on the horn... i was freekin scared...a new driver, had the car for a month...

most all of us have been in accidents and the "camry curse" is alive and well (that SOB curse!) so...who's next to get the curse?

BTW, the other driver sounds foreign (mexican actually) and prolly doesn't either have a liscense or insurance or both...

Yeah, hopefully you find the guy and collect some $$ for the damages cuz if he didn't stop he probably doesn't have insurance. I dunno how the insurance companies work, but as a courtesy, shouldn't AllState at least try and help you out?

No accidents for me *knock on wood* yet. I just drive defensively and I honk my horn if I think somebody doesn't see me. The worst for me is when people are practically next to me, put on their blinker and just start changing into my lane without looking.

Anyway, glad you're pretty much okay and hopefully you can find the guy.

he should die slowly...better yet...call INS and have him deported...set an example

Seriously, I am sorry to hear this. I hate when bad things happen to good people. Well, the good news is with the police report detailing the accident, you can sue him and he has no recourse....just a thought.

BTW if you ned a rear bumper for the repairs, I have a gen 3 rear bumper in the car with a crashbar too and all of the inserts....if that will take some of the sing out of the repairs for you... PM me once you get the repairs going

Accually collision wouln't fix it.... thats for if YOU hit someone.

You would probably need Uninsured or Underinsured motorist coverage. I know there is something for that. But I'm pretty sure its not collison.

Thank GOD you weren't hurt. I say that any accident that doesn't cause any injuries is just a fun ride.

Thanks for you convern guys. I went to the insurance company today and they did try to offer some kind of help. My insurance agent told me that the only thing he could do is send the guy a letter using an Allstate letterhead. lol! Some help huh?

And I have a bumper the same color sitting in the garage. I got it from TRDJibz, thank goodness for him. I also have another Driver side tailight. So Im good on that.

Im gonna try to fix the car as soon as possible because its gonna rain on Saturday (Pretty hard). I dont want all that rain getting into my trunk and rusting anything out.

it would have taken every ounce of my willpower to just pullover like the cops told you too. thats putting alot of faith into the police, hoping that they will follow up on this. if the guy wasnt driving to crazy i would have followed him until he ran out of gas if thats what it took. now this guy just drove away. when(and if) the cops find this guy i bet he says his van was stolen that same nite. then he can claim he is not responsible. if you had followed him then you can make sure the cops come to where you and the guy are. then he gets arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. i would also see if you can follow up on the uninsured motorist thing that someone mentioned. in RI i have only liability but get uninsured motorist with it too. its only $30 extra per year.

unfortunatly you probably cant get any $$$ from this guy, cuz i doubt he has any.

sorry about your car... i hope you get it back up asap. it doesnt look too bad for being hid by a huge ford van either. damn gen3's are tough cars.

You know, if it was anyone else driving a normal car, I would have chased him till the end of the earth. But in this situation he was driving a huge Van and a car like that could easily run me off the road. And while I was chasing him I rememebered an article I read earlier about a group of people in a white, Windowless delivary van (So you cant see whats inside it) rear ending people on the BQE and drive off. They make the people follow them to an empty location and then a bunch of guys come out the van and rob the person and steal the car. About 3 weeks ago someone was killed in the same situation.

And I doubt I'll get anything as well but its at least worth a try right? I'd hate myself if I didn't at least try.

They have nothing to do with it... It's liability insurance. I hate all-state as well, but don't bitch to them. Bitch to your dad because he's a cheap ass on an old car LoL! (I don't blame him)

Trash the car man. I don't like the idea of keeping it.

Good call on INS.

That's how we handle stray/annoying animals... Throw them in the back of the truck, drive 10 miles down the highway and kick their ass out.

I swear to god stray animals annoy the piss out of me... Almost every county in Alabama has leach laws, and it's only ever inforced when someone get's mauled by an animal... I say, every August, Alabama has a "stray" season. It'll save a ton of money, and the hunters will get something to do before deer season in the fall.

Think about it... It'll not only save the state a ton of money, but it'll generate much needed revenue!

I can't count the number of times people have called Jefforson County animal control, to not have them respond for a week, then someone will call the sheriff's department. The sheriff's simply get a good LOS on the animal and shoot it if it's not pinned.

No way on trashing the car. This is my baby. I cant give up on it just yet. Shes still got a couple of hundred thousand miles left in her.

And the reason Im pissed about Allstate is that this was 100% this other guys fault. I understand if he hit me and stopped and exchanged insurance but he ran away and left the scene. What if I was hurt? Was if I was killed? He didn't care. And when he was running away from me he almost caused several other accidents and could have even killed someone else in the process. (Thats one of the main reasons I stopped following him.)
Police and insurance always tell you that if your hit, try to get the license plate number. They stress it like its the most important thing. But even though I got the numbers my insurance company or the police or willing to do a damn thing about it. Even with having only liability, my insurance company could have at least been able to give me the info of this other guy so I can follow up on it on my own; but they wont even do that.

Is your neck still hurting? If you can find some accident lawyer, you'll be able to milk that for gold!

In all honesty, finding a lawyer to go after this guy might not be such a bad idea. You have a police report, the other guy's basic info, and the damage as evidence. If all you want is money to repair/replace the broken stuff on the car, then any accident lawyer should be willing to go after they guy and get paid from the lawsuit. Just a thought if you want to go that route.

Sorry, dude. Good luck with getting back in order.
