The drain plug/bolt is on the tranny pan. You need a 10mm hex socket or 10mm allen wrench.

i would also like to know what that other drain plug is in the diagram, and if it is ok to fill it through the dipstick up top instead of frmo underneath.

OK
there is 3 holes shown and then the tranny dip stick tube.

Looking at the above pic, the hole with the hand holding the wand is the differential fill hole. the other hole that is marked in the book (ink) is the differential drain hole.

The hole with the computer text (by 88LE) is the Transmission Drain plug (10mm hex).

Start with losening the differential fill bolt first, and then try getting a funnel and tube to fit the trans dipstick tube before draining.

Fluid for the differential.

Yes, I would do a drain and fill on it if its never been done.

The differential is filled through the backside, where it says filler hole. You need a funnel and some clear hose. Make sure the car is level when you fill up the differential.

You'll know when its full cos the fluid will backup into the hose.

The drain plug/bolt for the differential is also 10mm hex, like the tranny drain plug/bolt.

Fill plug/bolt for the differential is 17mm IIRC.

The differential (A140E tranny) on a 5S-FE holds about 1.5 quarts of fluid.

It takes a few quarts. 3 - 4?

You'll only get a few quarts out. The torque converter will still have fluid in it.

Yes, you drain the tranny by removing the bolt. And fill it backup through the dipstick.

P.S. I edited the pic above.

The tranny and differential is filled and drained seperately. This applies to automatic trannies.

Tranny: Drained through the tranny drain plug/bolt. Filled through the tranny dipstick.

Differential: Drained through the differential drain plug/bolt. Filled through the backside of the differential (fill hole/plug/bolt).
