4th Generation KYB/Tein - bottoming out?

I know several members have this setup, so I'm wondering if any of you guys have issues with your struts bottoming out when you hit a moderate(not big) bump like at a bridge or something...mine keeps doing this so I'm wondering if I've got a messed up strut or if this is regular.

Also, I'm not talking about speeding over speed bumps, just regular driving when I'm having this problem. One of my buddies said he had bump stops installed with his struts to prevent that...any ideas?

You didn't take the bumpstop out completely did you? You're supposed to trim it some but not all the way.

I didn't trim my bumpstop at all. I'm on OEM struts and I don't bottom out...

well, I didn't do the install myself...and i'm not too sharp on that stuff...do the original struts have bump stops on them to begin with?

I had a shop that's been doing my tires for years do the work, so I'm assuming that they removed the old bump stops with the old struts...guess I'm going to be going back to them to have this fixed...

i dont think new struts come with new bumpstops, i think u reuse the old ones. either way check and make sure you got 'em.

You reuse the stock bumpstops. If you don't have them it can cause your strut to bottom out and cause premature wear of the strut.

It's easy to see if you have them. Just jack the car up and look. It'll be a piece of rubber about 3-6" tall that goes on the shaft of the strut. To trim you can use a kitchen knife but like I said.. with the small drop Teins provide I didn't do mine. If you have the rubber dust boot (I removed mine) you might have to move it some to see if the bumpstop is there.

okay, i'll check that out to be sure. I did call my shop and they said there was not a bumpstop on the old struts, so they probably threw them out ...any idea where I can pick up replacements?

Junkyard (not worth the trouble if you ask me), ebay (maybe) or Toyota dealership

edit:
I reused my dust boot too.
