Hey there~
I'm new here on posting but I've been reading this forum for a couple of months, so you can be a smart ass if you want. I don't mind ^_^
Right now, my Camry is sitting in my driveway, dead. His poor little Camry spirit is getting destroyed by the sun.
One day he will be a badass Camry. Quite a badass Camry.
Yes anyways. I already have most of it planned out. But I need some input from people that know a little bit more about this.
So far I'm going to get a Engine Swap to a 3s-gte and change the automatic transmission into a manual. I know there was a little guide on here to change an auto to a manual somewhere on here a couple months ago, but I couldn't find it on the search. So if anyone could point that out to me I would appreciate it.
I will get most of this Labor Free because in my college (I take Automotive Technology) I get a couple of projects for myself. Which will be my engine swap and the tranny swap. So just ignore any of that stuff.
Now, I need some performance parts for the engine. Keep in mind its a 3s-gte not a normal 5sfe.
This is where I need some input from the more experianced tuners. Should I just go for the intake/exhaust like most supa dupa civic ricers do, or should I go to upgrade the internals and upgrade the turbo? Money really isn't bothering me right now. =)
After that is the looks and stuff. Ah yes, which reminds me. This is a 1994 Camry LE. If you know any nice body kits/spoilers/lights or anything like that, tell me please ^_^
Thanks for your time!
The 3SGTE internals can reportedly hold up to 400whp, so if I were you, I would upgrade the turbo, ingition, fuel, exhaust, intercooler and possibly a stand alone engine management to make everything work together (it would be easier than fooling around with the stock ecu.)
A good set of coilovers and swaybars along with some chassis reinforcement would be worth your while too.
Well my goals is to make it around a mid 12s sort of car. 11 seems a bit too much stress for a daily driver to me.
I'll probably do what you mentioned with the stand alone system and the likes. I think that will work good.
If Wraith ever reads this I would like to get some input from him because I know his Camry runs 13s or around there.
Before any bodywork or anything is done to this car, I want to make it into a huge ass sleeper. Right now the paint is getting fried off from the sun, and everything is all crappy looking. I just want to be able to rev at someone and them laugh at me (like they did when it ran) but me being able to shoot off and leave their asses behind ^_^
i mean i loved to do all that shit too......but where do we get the money for it all? im gonna have to start a small business: "www.happypornland.com"
ill make millions!!!!!!
my plan if i were to get a 3s-gte.....would be replacing a few internals (ive always been a fan of having the engine much stronger than you are gonna dish out, because it makes me feel safer with i hit the high rpms and pressures), bore out that block baby for more displacement, upgrade the pistons custom from a piston company, get some upgraded rings too, oooooooohhh and maybe upgrade camshaft, upgrade valve springs, heat resistant wrapping for your exhaust manifold and all your hot parts, of course a nice exhaust, stand alone ecu, advanded ignitions, external wastegate, hi-flo catalytic converter, upgrade blow off valve, intercooler of course, upgrade fuel pimp, extra fuel injector or two maybe, decent cold air intake or icebox, upgrade throttle body, water injection installed, larger rotors and upgrade suspension, upgrade a few transmission components like racing clutch, and a maybe a little wet nitrous for that one night you pull up next to that shitty a$$ mustang gt :-D.
as far as lights and kits and stuff........dont ask me, all i look for is gen 4 stuff (try www.jtautostyle.com)

Scratch the 5S-FTE idea...I'm just a poor college student, but I can wait because in a few years ill be going 600 mph 100 feet above the ground.
Thanks for all the info Phi, I knew you would step in sooner or later ^_^
And sorry for the delay in my response, I was at school learning about how to diagnose exterior light problems. Hooray.
Anyway, Wraith. I was wondering if you knew what upgraded turbos are available for the 3s-gte. That and if the tranny swap will make anything a little more complicated than it should be. Will a v6 5-speed just bolt up to the 3s-gte or will I need some lovely alterations of some sort?
My automotive teacher is welcoming this whole Transmission Swap, because he thinks it will show all the students what to do if someone ever decides to do it, which he says is quite rare.
Thanks for your help uhhh... I forgot your name, but you said I should upgrade all the internals and such. I'm retarded : (
Thanks~
hey deep where did you get the info on 3sgtes handling 400hp stock? i havent heard of any or read of any. and i have been reading in the mr2 forum for quite some time. justin you know anybody running 400 on stock internals? but back on topic. best places to go for info on this is www.board.mr2faq.com. they are very smart. i learned alot from them. i just need to make the money for the parts. i have my list right now. if you want i can send you a liste of what parts are for the 3sgte. its not a whole list but basically lists of big name companies and almost all the internals you can find in the mr2. i know im missing like 1 or 2 in the list but cant remember. has been a while since i checked it. and for upgraded turbo i would suggest going to same 1 justin has or similar. the gt30 kit. you can contact lb(thats his sign on name) for that kit. do a search on their board for the kit. he has alot of photos of the kit. its very impressive. 1 of the best manifolds ive seen for a 4cylinder. or just go to www.extremeboost.com. they should have information on it.

well, heres first step on how to pick a upgrade turbo kit ...Whats your GOD honest horsepower goals minus by your budget... I mean theres alot of turbo kits ranging from a simple upgrade CT26 to full boar 51Kai SPL ( $7000) ... Look at where you want your boost, horsepower and torque to be at on a rpm band. Do you want top end or low end to mid end power??? Do you want a simple upgraded turbo or a full on turbo kit ???
I sell Garrett turbos on the side ( heres a small list of my garrett turbo ... http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292050215 )and if you get the project off the ground, let me know. Ask anyone about Garrett turbos they are simply the best turbos around ... Same turbos used on Le Mans...
The 3S-GTE tranny is alittle bid harder to fit into the Camry chasis. It'll require a mixture of different bell housings, alxes, and custom fabricated rear tranny mount and will require you to convert your hubs to V6 hubs...
The V6 trans off a 2nd Gen should work with a custom clutch and flywheel setup... pretty much a straight thru affair...But, will also require you to change your hubs out to e series hubs...
Internals ?!?!? are we talking about a 5s-fe or 3s-gte ??? the 3S-GTE is good for 18psi of boost with a good amount of tunning, but is on the ragged edge because off the weak rings...
By the way the name Justin ... Let me know if you need to know more ...

Henry ... try looking up the old SCC MR2 turbo project ... I remember correctly they made 400hp at the wheels before blowing the motor up... I know my buddy Ronny "The Rocket " Chen made 391@ wheels on just upgraded pistons , stock head gasket, stock head bolts, 60mm throttle body, turbonetics stage 3 T3/T4 upgrade turbo on 2.3bar of boost...
Thanks for the info Wraith.
So in your opinion, should I go for the mr2 tranny or just go ahead and get the v6 tranny?
And on the horsepower and torque specifications. I want around... 300 or so, I don't want to be so insanely powerful that I have a tough time navigating through traffic so I don't fly in and rear end someone. As for my powerband, I would like to have a low to mid pickup. Be able to jump off the line really quick and outrun someone hopefully in the first two or three gears.
Ahhh also, thanks to my lovely school, I can use the Dyno whenever I wish to see what I should set my gear ratios up and stuff.
As for the internals. I mean for a 3s-gte, my current engine is kind of blown the hell up so it isn't doing me much good. It doesn't really matter to me about how much hp/torque the engine can hold as far as just getting it. I want to be able to stay in the first gears for a good while. You know, forged pistons/rods/rings, etc... Also use it as an insurance kind of thing. I would like an engine that I spent 7 or 8k on to just blow up all of a sudden. So i'm thinking if I just upgrade the internals to where you could throw it out of an airplane and drive away with it, I'll be ok.
Thanks for the help everyone.

well, the turbo your looking for should be a GT25R from Garrett or a TD06 that should get you to your 300wheel horsepower goals, easy...
The MR2 trans in my opinoin is worth it because its just a better trans. But, it would be cheap and easier for you to go to the V6 Trans. The V6 tranny is a very good trans just not a better trans than the MR2 ... So its really up to you what you want ....
