Problem with changing brakes, please help :(

I am changing brakes on my 93' camry for the 1st time. No problems, took of the caliper, old brake pads, put on new ones, pushed the cylinder in far enough so the new brakes will fit, and then....
The caliper will not fit back in. The bottom "sliding nut", if thats the correct term to use- basically the 1 of the 2 nuts that the caliper is held by, well it would not slide in/our or rotate like the top one does.
I tried carefully spraying some WD-40 under neat the rubber sleeve, but nothing, it just won't move.
What do i do???

Remove that part (guide pin), remove the rubber boot, grease up the guide pin with high temp grease, and reinstall.

I can't, it would not move AT ALL. I tried sliding it in/out, even tried just turning it with a wrench ant it doesnt move.

GOT IT. After a while of hammering, turning, spraying wd-40, the !#$%!% came out. The problem was that the plastic bushing located toward the tip of the pin (inside the torque plate) desinegrated for some reason, and the pin was all rusty, dirty, etc..

I cleaned it up, put in new lubrication, but i still need to buy another pin w/ a bushing.
Do I have to go to a dealer for that, or would Pep-Boys, Autozone, NAPA have something like that?

Try a autoparts store first.

Goto the dealer aka. stealership as a last resort.

I agree with itzsteven. Go to the dealer. I was in the same situation you were in about a year ago. The dealer said he had the pin but not the bushing. I went to several auto parts stores and the best I could do to get the bushing was to buy a whole caliper rebuilding kit for around $30. It came with new bushings but not new slider pins. I went back to the dealer for the slider pin and low and behold, when the parts guy brings it out it has the bushing already on it. He apologized for the mistake and has helped me out several times since. Luckily, I was able to return the aftermarket caliper rebuilding kit. Just be carefull you get the right pin. One is with the bushing and the other pin is without the bushing.

Also, you might want to replace that rubber accordian like sleeve that goes on the slider pin. If that gets warped or torn it allows water to get to the pin and that's what causes it to rust and bind in the caliper mounting bracket (Toyota calls this bracket a torque plate). You also need to clean out the hole in the torque plate thoroughly. I took mine to a friend's shop who had a bead blaster and he blasted the hole clean for me and then blew everything out with compressed air. He is a former Toyota tech and said the slightest bit of rust left in there will cause the new pin to rust in place again. Then lubricate the hole and the pin thoroughly.

Good luck.

Mike

Ok, after a bunch of phone calls to the local auto-parts shops and dealers, i was able to locate a pin with a bushing. But NOBODY has the rubber boot that protects from dust.
Any ideas?

My local Toyota dealer had the rubber boot in stock too. I don't remember the exact price but it wasn't too expensive.
