Hola! Ok...so heres my question. I have a 1997 Camry Le...and it has been squeaking when i drive it.Jjust started a little while ago. Im thinking its a belt. I dont know a ton about cars so I thought that you guys could help me out. I cant reallly describe the sound but when i heard it i thought it was a bird. It sounds just like a chirping sound. The car is at 120k miles and yeah...help! Thanks guys.

Ummm, is the squeaking noise come from the brake, the engine....?????
I assume it's from the brakes since brakes always make squeaking noises when it's wore out. If that's the case, just change the pads and double check your shims and squeaking pin.
If not, just post it up, I think there're a lot of members on here can help u out.
well its when i am going straight........not turning...its coming from the engine im pretty sure. I thought maybe it was a tire but it did it when I was stopped at a light. I called the mechanic in town and he is going to call me back tomorrow and make an appt for it to get looked at. Im at school and my regular guy is back home

describe the sound. How long it lasts? How often it occurs? Is it a constant chirping or just every few minutes? on a scale of 1-10 (1 being silent, 10 being a peel out) how loud would you describe it????

sounds like belts to me. have you ever had your auxillary belts replaced? these drive the ac/alt/power steering etc.? If not, prolly time for some new ones. If they appear to be in good shape they just might need tensioning.
in the short term no, esp if the chirps are short in duration and are not constant. As with anything, you should have it resolved sooner rather than later. Procrastinating will only complicate matters.
Like you said, let it ride until you get home to your regular mechanic you trust. That way on the way home you can warm up the credit card at some malls.
When the card is at the correct operating temperature, go to the mechanic and let him change all the belts, including the timing belt. If, the name of the credit card doesn't mind you adding an extra $75 onto your bill. You need to have the water pump changed. The mechanic will not have 15 min worth of extra work to do that.
If big 'imp'n daddy mac - S doesn't mind another $50. Get the idler pulley's changed out (thy're what the timing belt snakes around) They don't normally wear out by 120,000 miles on Toyota's, but if one is worn out, and the chirping isn't a belt, the idler pulley is probably the next thing in lined. (again doesn't cost labor, since they're uncovered when you change the timing belt)
