If you open your airbox and let it rest on the clips that normally hold it closed (it only rests on one, use the one that keeps it as low as possible, the other, just let is fold down), this will open up a small crack in the airbox. When you drive, it sounds like you have a turbo/cai
Ill post a sound clip of mine soon, but this mod is so easy and er.. so inexpensive (lol, free) you could just run out and try it yourself
yea.. boy that sounds really hick rigged.. why dont i just take off the whole air box too.. that should give it a nice rattle..
there is a reason its over it.. that is to avoid dirt and watter and such other things from getting in the engine.. the air filter is a secondary so opening it just increases the chances that dirt and shit is gonna get in your engine
but hey i hope it sounds cool for awhile.. have fun fixing your car when its broken though congratz on the pointless ( does absolutly nothing then make yourself look and sound reatrded) mod?.. PSH
oo by the way.. "key word" (SOUNDS LIKE) right up until you ruin the Camry name by getting ur azz wooped by a honda..because you acctually have ur Camry all hickass rigged so it performs worse

Just take the foot of a nylon panty hose and stretch it over the entire thing. Filters are over rated, the nylon doesn't burn/melt, and in case you're just horrified that a rock will jump 3 feet high, around the frame, and transmission itself; will stop a rock from hitting your AFM.

hey man, u can say what is wrong with the idea and stuff, but no need to flame like that, it is just rude, and not a good way to treat people on the boards...
it is an idea, but he is right about the crap getting into the filter that way, since the stock airbox is not meant to be that way, might wanna go with some new piping and a proper cone filter, even a cheapy should do the job

When I was waiting for my air filter, I drove around for almost 300 miles like Toy's no filter macho setup. It doesn't sound as nice with the plastic of the airbox resonating, but who cares?

got measurements for the bolt pattern? im gonna get an adapter.

Terrastrife, I ordered an adapter from Autozone.com that was meant for the conical air intakes. You'll find it under intake accessories for the 1992 Camry. The four holes didn't match up so i just placed the piece over the 4 bolts of the AFM, put little dots as cues, and cut 4 new holes with a drill bit and it fits perfectly.
Ebay sells adapters too, just search for "intake camry adapter"
