Please Help regarding maintenance issue..

Hey Guys,

I'm steadily approaching the 60,000 mark and I need to get some maintenance done.

I noticed that when I turn on my Air Conditioner, a funny smell emits and then it goes away after a while. It doesn't smell too good at all...

Do you know what exactly I need to do to fix this? Do i replace the freon, or air filter or what, I don't want to take it to the dealership, but am considering taking it to another car place (jiffy lube) type place.

Also, It says I need to change my transmission and differential fluid on the pamphlet. What exactly is differential fluid?

Dan

That smell coming from your AC is mold/mildew/bacteria..ewww! To get rid of it, spray some lysol into the intake vent somewhere under the dash. I'm not sure if there is an air filter on your car, but if there is, just replace it. To prevent it from reoccuring, do that regularaly and clean the leaves and debris that collects outside at the bottom of the windshield.

As for the tranny and diff. fluid, it's a good idea to change it if you haven't done it before. The diff. has a separate resivour that holds quite a bit of fluid in it. You should get that changed as well.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the dealer and their prices. I was surprised to learn that they actually charge reasonable rates on some jobs. Give them a call and ask for a quote. However, any reputable mechanic should be able to do the job for you.
