quite a few ppl get better mileage from higher grade gas, but then again, it costs more so it evens that out :P
i get better eco, but my throttle response is down the drain with premium premium unleaded

Really in all honesty, I don't feel improvement when I run a higher octane. However when I switch back to regular I get stumbles and lower miles to the gallon.
Seems to somewhat clear up after a while as the car adjusts.
Then comes payday and the car gets topshelf (mid to premium). All I do notice is better mpg and slightly easier starting. Cleaner pulling.
Wait a minute, it does help a little.
Hmmm, think I will stick with mid grade. For 10 cents more, I can dig it.
I get lousy mpg numbers cause I like to feel acceleration. 16.7 from last fill of regular.
I've recently looked on the net about using higher octane fuel and it really doesn't look as if it's worth using. Most sources seem to say you actually get less performance! It just recommends that you use the lowest octane rating fuel you can, without the engine knocking. This does then make you wonder about the higer octane performance fuels. I suppose the only way to really know is to try them all.
I did some looking around too. Most of the sites I saw said the same thing. In most cases using a higher octane gas than your manual recommends won't give you better performance (although I do notice a difference between 87 and 89...). The octane rating just tells you how well the gas fights engine knock.
I did find, however, that WHERE you get your gas can make a difference. Some companies put better detergents in their gas than others, which can clean your fuel system and help your engine run a little smoother.
Detergents are 1/3 the level they were in the mid 90's. Oil companies were using them as selling points during that time.
The government stepped in and made "manditory regulations" on the amount of cleaners to be put ing as. Unfortunately, it was many times LESS what the oil companies were giving WITHOUT regulation!
If your engine isn't knocking on low grade gas, you have nothing to gain by using higher octant gas, and will probably loose a tiny bit of perofrmance from the mroe stable gas.

i was keeping an eye on the gas price as well as the mpg for a last couple months,
i always use 93 or higher for my V6, and getting around average 25 mpg for city/high mix until recently i switch to 87 octane, and every time i refilled, the mpg keeps going up ever since i use 87, from 25mpg to 25.5, then 26.5, and the most recent refill yield 388 miles and take me 13.6 gallon (28.5mpg) to top off the tank again.
these are just base on my personal calculation and driving habbit,
i am really interested to see some hard evident proving higher octane better than manufacture suggested yield higher mpg, not just he said or she said.
higher octane is better when your engine is retarding under regular. simple.
