2nd Generation Exhaust Choice

I have a 1991 toyota camry V6 and i am going to get a exhaust system and dont know what to get. I swiss cheesed my muffler and its loud and i was wondering if that gave me any performance or made me lose performance. I want a exhaust system i would like to get is something that gives me great performance with a good sound. I wanted to know which is better for performance straight piping or muffler i thought straight would be best because its better flow but everyone says u lose back pressure so i dont know. If anyone could help me decide that would be awesome. sry for the long thread

Don't count on any performance from exhuast upgrades.

The only way you'll make any power upgrading the exhaust is:
1) Fabbing a better Y-pipe
2) Dropping the cat

what you can do is get all new piping all the way back 2.25 inches in diameter.. keep in mind you'r gonna lose some low end torque and any universal muffler will do

Because it does. Just be careful you don't go to big with the muffler. Lower the back pressure to much and you'll be in a world of hurt. If there isn't enough back pressure, the exhaust that gets sucked back in can't make it all the way back to the catalytic converter. It just gets stuck in the pipe and gets super heated. I've seen a muffler glow cherry read before. And a friend of my step dad nearly lit his back seat on fire by putting to big a muffler on.

if you want a good sound..then just get a high flow intake...makes a nice deep airy tone...then if you still want the sound to be louder go for the muffler
