Ok, to answer all the questions:
1. Yep, i'm a satriani fan, though the Ice Nine reference is from my favorite book "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut.
2. A step-by-step would be easy, this wasn't hard at all. If you have a dremel tool, epoxy and some time, you can do this.
3. The angel-eyes were bought off Ebay for like $75. I have clear corners coming too, but I plan on taking 'em apart so I can make the background black on those as well to match the headlights.
As for a step-by-step, here it is:
1. Buy a grill on ebay (juuuust in case you screw this up)
2. Look closely at the chrome rim of the grill. You'll see a slight indent that goes all around the grill. That's the point where I dremeled around. I first kinda chopped through the center guts of the grill to make this easier.
3. Go to Home Depot and get some gutter-guard. you get 5 sheets for $2, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to get this right
4. Lay the gutter-guard over the front of the grill and use a marker (like a sharpie) to trace the outline of the grill on the mesh. You don't have to be incredibly exacting here. You can do a sloppy job and it'll still look good. Just make sure it's a bit bigger than the grill opening.
5. Stick the mesh in the grill and get it "looking right" (no magic here, just kinda lay it in). Get some of the putty-style epoxy (easier to work with), and knead it a bit then rub it in your hands to make longish ribbons. Press the epoxy into the mesh and grill to make it stick. I used the 4 minute stuff that starts tacking pretty quickly.
Just let it dry for an hour, then install it. That's all there is to it. It took me all afternoon (I was being careful, I didn't have a replacement grill, so if I screwed it up my car would have looked pretty stupid for a while lol).
