Bypassing AC?

I have an UR underdrive pulley and it squeaks all the time. When I was tightening it last time it occurred to me that with a shorter belt I could just run the crank pulley to alternator and skip the AC compressor. This would give more contact area to the pulleys thus cutting down on squeaking and mabe netting a faster rev as well due to reduced load. Would this be very bad for the AC? Im not even sure it works anymore since I have not used it for two years now. I figured a belt is a few bucks why not? Will I harm anything?

No, it won't harm anything. A few people on this forum have bypassed their a/c compressor with a shorter belt.

You might have to shim (use some washers) the a/c compressor away from the block, so that the belt doesn't rub on the pulley.

if it is a 1mz, and you want to eliminate the a/c the correct belt size is 380k6 : 38inches long, 6 grooves.

i just did this last weekend when starting my turbo install... i took all of the a/c components out of the car. the engine bay is so much cleaner and bare looking now. it makes me want to take everything out and stick to engine only.

edit: just checked out your cardomain to find out it surely isnt a 1mz. soooo i suggest this to you... take a string or wire and run it where the belt would go, just to the alternator. then take it off and measure the length. take the number of inches multiply by 10 and you have your belt size.
ex. 38 inches. 38x10 = 380
it has 6 grooves so that means k6.
belt size is 380k6.

ex 38.5 inches. 38.5x10 = 385
belt size is 385k6.

take this belt number to the autoparts store and get the belt. sometimes they wont carry it in stock, you may have to order it.
