Gen5 Camry MPG Toll

Hey, hows it going. I've been some problems with my Camry to that extent that I had to replace my transmission under warrenty. Now my gas mileage has suffered significantly. I've been getting 100 miles less per tank. Instead of about 450 miles per fill I'm getting 350 miles per fill. I've also been consistently hearing a whistle coming from the driver side of the car and it is loudest at about 25% throttle. I'm rather apprehensive that they messed up when they installed the tranny because they actually broke one of the sensors during the instillation so I fell that they took the procedure rather lightly.

So I was wondering if I could get a generally tally to see what other people are getting.

Initially when I used to get better gas milieage I my highway driving was about 36% of my entire tank. [thats 160 miles for the 450 total]

Now its increased to about 46% for the tank [same 160 miles for the total 350 miles]

By the way, its a 2003 Camry LE 4-cyl and automatic.

Any help or comments would be appreciated,

Thank you for your time,

Mr. Person

I get around 450 like u said. Max i've ever got is 470-480 miles from full till driving w/ red light on. Yup, it seems busted if u get 300 something. I have a 2002 Camry LE 4-cyl.

I have doubts that it's just the transmission. Unless the old one was...well, more able to turn over than the new one with less effort of the engine. Odds are something was tampered with besides the tranny.

Cool

Vacuum leak.
The engine is sucking in air somewhere it shouldn't. (loose vacuum hose, cracked hoses).

With the engine running, pull the throttle plate open with your hand so the engine revs. Find where the whistling is comming from and fix it.
