4th Generation Adjust trunk springs DIY

Here is a step by step.... but it won't be any good if your spoiler/wing is too heavy.
I am clueless of how to attach the images, so if they are a no show, copy the links please.

EDIT: click below, the album is in sequence.
http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/gal...5d.jpg&.src=ph

Here is my XLE with non functional spoiler:

Here is the torsional arm that will hold up the trunk, push the U shaped section towards the body/outside. Thar will give you some more slack for the following:

Here is a trim removal tool... worth every penny, and a 10mm wrench:
Remove the bolt on the hook with wrench and then use the trim removal tool to take off the hook and trim plug:

Now you should see this:

Make sure you sit inside trunk and make sure it is fully open,
Put your hand on the rod, push up and Pull the rod out and move to the upper slot.

EDIT: Do the same to both sides if a bit more tension is needed, I ended up doing the other for this set of pictures.

so you do this to make the trunk sit more flush when you close it?

My trunk was popped open for the first picture, it has always done so.... even after the spoiler was put on, and I did not notice any more lift after the increase of spring tension.

But before the trunk lid can close without warning when there is an unexpected breeze. Now it is a definate improvement

so i tried to pull out the torsion bar but it wouldnt come out, the 90 degree bend was too long to clear the edge of the hole.
i just read the thread again and saw to "push up" on the rod, just to make sure that means pushing straight up, right?

First you have to slide the Ushaped section towards the body on the opposite side.
Push up to releive the spring on the slot hole at the 90 deg. bent end and then pull out.

Same here, please follow instructions to a T, get in there and be careful, them springs might come undone, that's what happened to me.

But it is so much better now, the Trunk Lid comes up better, and stays up.

Now I am even thing of adding another hole higher to actually add more tension and get more leverage.

Great post OP! Thank you!
