Engine Mounts

How can I tell if my motor mounts are bad? I have a 95 Camry 4 cyl.,I notice that my engine seems to be sitting closer to the rear. This is based in the motor mount that is a dogbone shape mount.

if it is bad, it would be all torn up.

there is also an engine mount under the engine. it looks like a toilet plunger, except longer and it is black.

The one that is sitting near the firewall is the one I think maybe bad, because the motor seems to be sitting slightly further back than before. The rear motor mount looks okay, no torn rubber cover and I do not you any leaks. Does the front and rear mounts contain fluid?

No fluid in these.

The dogbone is usually the one to go, but even when gone, it won't let the motor twist very far. The rubber insert cracks then deteriorates in chunks. Poster "Toysrme" has a procedure for fixing the dogbone, search it.

The front one usually goes first, cause after the dogbone, it experiencing the most loading from engine twist.

95 camry: 4 motor mounts. When the dog bone goes there is a good chance that the front motor mount is not in very good shape. There is another motor mount in the back. Passanger side close to firewall. They front and rear motor mount have some f;uid inside and it acts as a shock absorber. The 4th motor mount is ther one that is attache to the transmission. Rearly fails. The only way to know if the fron or rear mounts are shot is to take them out of the car. The dog bone can be inspected for cracks. If the dogbone does not have cracks, I doubt that any of the other mounts are shot.
