Smells like .........

Upon starting the car in the morning there is a smell that is best described like the smell of a "paint shop". I would need to step outside the car to detect this smell. Also it goes away in a short time.

It seems like my car was at a body shop, does anyone know what it can be or is this normal?

THX

Knailgun,

I noticed this smell when I steped out of the car when I heard a squealing noise coming from the belt area, this noise goes away after a short warm up time. Now, being outside the car upon initial startup I noticed that body shop smell that eventually disappears.

This a probably a byproduct of the gasoline at the catalytic converter, I don't know or the smell of whatever is making that low noise squeal near the belts such as the belt or .

The car runs very well with no problems but I am concerned what this can be just in case.
I like the smell of paint especially when the car is painted but not now.

I will look into sniffing out the area some morning but I doubt it would be easy.

doesnt sound like anything of a concern.. maybe your sepentine belt is rubbing.. or like you said, it could just be a gas mix smell. But from what you have given for information.. it doesnt seem as though its any cause for concern.. you could try spraying lubricant, and see if this stops the squeeking noise
