Hello,
How can i tell if i have an engine immobilizer in my 2002 Camry LE. or do all Gen5s have it as standard? And no.. i'm not gonna try to somehow hotwire it and see if the engine turns off after a while =P

2002-2005 V6 camry LEs and SEs have the immobilizer and they're standard. The XLEs, both V6 and I-4, have them with the anti-theft alarm.

It's only available on the V6s. Not the I-4s.

This is one way to see if you have it or not.

Yes. Basically the key has a transponder chip. Without it, the car won't start. Now all new toyotas have chips in the key. The one with the immobilizer has a different chip.

Heh. Don't depend on what I said. Although this is what I know. If you want to make absolutely sure about it. Go to the dealers and ask the service department. Not the salesrep. Most likely the salesrep will give you a BS assessment.

there should be a flashing red light on the dash, and that light stops flashing when the key is close or in the ignition. The chip in the key sends a signal to the fuel pump, so without it there wont be any fuel

My Camry "Azura" (Australia) has the Factory Alarm/Security as standard. i also have a Satellite Tracking System added. On top, I purchased an aftermarket "upgrade" alarm system which piggy backs onto the factory system, thus running off the Camry's own transponder (i.e. also switches alarm on/off) - no extra transponders/FOBs required.

Just something you can check
Look in the owners manual for engine immobilizer in the index or security or something to that effect. I know for my 02 Sienna they actually show pictures of what the stanard non immobilizer key and the immobilizer key looks like. if you are familiar with Toyota keys the old ones have a long slot in the top of the key where you would typically put the key ring. On the immobilizer key the hole for the keyring is more circular and only really big enough for the key ring to fit through. I hope this makes sense this is the best way I can explain it. Oh one other thing the immobilizer key is about 1.5 times thicker than the old standard Toyota key.

You can check it. Go cut a copy of your key. If you have it, it will start then shut off in like 5 seconds. I'm pretty sure they all have it unless those US cars are different.
