Just wanted some advice on changing my thermostat on my 2VZ V6. I've bought the thing..but i just cant see how to get to the thermo housing to remove the thing. Removing the belt and the bottom hose still doesnt give enough room to get to the 3 bolts/nuts that are holding the housing. Seems the only way to do it is to remove the dogbone (as if doing the timing belt) and getting at it that way. I assume the 3VZ is similar...can anyone help?? Anyone done it before?

Pull the ALT out. They've got all this hardware that holds them on, but you only need the 12mm and 14mm bolts to put the ALT back in.

Thanks Toysrme..i saw the alt there and thought it would be easier to have it out..still tho, the nuts (2 or 3??) holding the thermo housing on seem hard to get at without raising the motor up...what sorta tools did u use to get at it. Seems very tricky....

I had taken the washer tank out and moved the res to sit elsewhere.
I just reached down and did it.

It's a tight fit, but my 3/8" kobalt wrachet wiggled in, and it's long compaired to a craftsman.

You might could jack the car up and set it on a jack-stand. Take the stock under-stray off, and reach the bottom bolt, but... Having spent a bunch of time under the car (but never paying attention to that specifically) I don't see how that would be any easier

It's a bitch just keep at it. When I was "playing" with my second timing belt, I was about ready to simply take my super sawzall and cut the unibody out of the wheel well! :P Swear to god if I have any more fucking powersteering, or timing belt problems I'll do it now that I have a MIG welder.

That bastard will be *gone* so I can get to the whooooole engine!

Can a gen2 bay be that much smaller? 2vz block is a little shorter.

Yeah the actual bay is smaller, so theres probly just as much room in my bay as in urs. It's so tight..i dnt understand why they did that.
