Camry & Solara LoungeDiscussion area for every generation of Toyota's family car, the Toyota Camry. Lexus ES250/300 owners welcome! Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance and more.
I have searched through some 30 pages of results to find no definitive results to my question.
I have a Gen 2 camry 3sfe camry, while legal restrictions and lack of capital have eliminated forced induction i would like to have a good first car NA setup. While intake, exhaust, camshafts and undecided headworks are on the books i would like to start with CPU management.
I am really not worried about any price below $2000 AUD for this mod, however would like to go as cheap as posible as to allow for other mods soon.
I have thought about this and the setup would require a Laptop-tuneable system, with 3 or 4 programable setings (economy/ standard, race etc). this system must be reasonably easy to understand as i am a noob to modding, however the interface is negligable as i a alright with computers.
i dont want to know how shit you think someone else is but different products quality and your opinion on your favoured setup.
Any links are apreciated
Thanks,
Pat

Need power? Get an Ebay Intake mod!!!
***MOD: Signature violation. Size is too big. Keep it under 500x150 pixels.***
Do what Jetspeed did, get a Powerchip. SAFC will require dyno time and is only air/fuel, as far as I know. while Powerchip is plug and play but also retunable. If you wanna go higher Unichip is fairly good and stand-alone Autronic units are about the best you're gonna get for under 2k. Motec is coming out with a 6cylinder specific version of their current M400 soon so head that way if you wanna go sik!
SMT-6. Everything else and you're wasting money, just "fooling around" or wasting tons of money and still fooling around.
They cost $320 usd.
And there is so no reason to log any dyno *tuning* on an engine that won't be leaps and bounds away from the stock numbers. If you can cut a few wires, there is no rhyme or reason why you can have your engine piggyback tuned in a half hour.

Yes. Those are going to start around $450-500. I'd love to sell my SMT-6 to upgrade...

what sort of increase could be gained from the basic mods(CAI, extractors high flow cat and 2.25 inch pipe)?
I will go with the six to start with
better fuel mileage
youre in australia, you shouldnt be looking here for 3s upgrades. get 3sgte parts and bang em on with some love and care (or sell and get a 3sgte -- theyre cheap) if the cops are going to book you, theyll book you. remember a turbo'ed cars exhaust is queiter then a na one (you can hear me over 1km away, even though its drone free and super quiet inside), that one less thing theyll look at you for
NITROUS.
2 grand to spend -- get a 3sgte+tranny and do most of the labour yourself.
OR boost ya fe for about $600 in parts -- plenty left over for when the engine brakes and ya need another one.
nitrous and have over a grand spare for new wheels/tyres/springs
youri elooking between 600-900 (local aud, not counting importing from the states) for a programmable ecu for a camry.
the main thing to remember is always have a weekend to a month of off time for the car, depending on what youre doing, projects always run overtime.

I'm stepping on a limb here, but from everything I've read from a few AUS tuner mags, piggybacks / re-tuning ECU's / stand-alones are legal in most places if you can pass the emession test.
