Throttle Cable Problem!

i have a feeling this is a potentially serious problem. I borrowed a picture from the "Free Mods" thread to help demonstrate what i mean.

i was looking under the hood today and happened to notice something. on the throttle cable (the one circled in red)..there is no rubber cap on the left side (on the left if youre in front of the car, looking towards the car). as you can see there are two nuts, one on each side. the one on the left (or on the top on the picture) has come almost off...it has come all the way down the end of the thread. when i screw it back on, i bring it to the other nut, but dont do it excessively tight. i'll drive for a mile and pull over and check it, and it will have already unscrewed again. what is wrong here and how dangerous is it and how do i fix it?

Cool

Google thread locker.

Locktight is the big name brand.

Think semi-perminant, to "fairly" perminant glue for joining bolts / nuts, and other such hardware.

Loctite is like a liquid nylon that can be applied to threaded fasteners (screws, studs, nuts, bolts) and works to absorb the vibration usually transferred to the fasteners. This vibration is what loosens fasteners over time. Apply the Loctite to the threads of one of the mating fasteners and then assemble them together. Use the blue stuff. Once it sets up, the red stuff needs to be heated with a torch to be removed. I believe the blue stuff is Loctite 242.
