Various stuff, DIY attempts failed horribly and need help
Yesterday, I had attempts to replace several parts onto my car and failed to do all. I know these are basically n00b questions, but seriously though, I dont see how I have a problem with them. Note, I do have a Haynes manual which I can't find this easy stuff, and I haven't driven more than 1 mile on it for over 1.5yrs.
First off...I tried to install my 17's finally last night and was able to install the front two, but for some reason, both left and right REAR would not budge at all. I took the nuts off the wheel and pulled and pulled and finally I just said fuck it, they're not coming off!! The front wheels were no problem, just unscrewed those 5 nuts and the wheel popped right off. I even released the E-Brake and it didnt work. Is there something else I need to unscrew somewhere???
Next my problem was the headlights. I'm trying to replace the 96's with some Scepter ones and I couldn't even get the damn thing off. All the visible ones on the front and top were removed, but it appears there is one still holding it on the outer sides of the housing (the side where the corners are) I tried to take the fender off, took the 3 screws off the top, and 6 on the wheel well and that wouldn't come off either. At this point, I wanted to take a hammer to the damn thing brean it out and happily put my Scepter ones it. I know this sounds easy and you guys have done it before, just simple help and tips would help me much and save time. Thanks for replies
I know on my '93 there is a screw behind the corners that you need to take off in order to the get the healights off. The wheels wel I don't knwo why they wouldn't wanna come off.
Yes, I think that's the one I get stuck on. It looked like its located underneath the clear corner, but you cant see the screw. It looks as if its under the fender right next to where the clears corners are
on the wheels, use the impact hammer and hit it from inside out, it will come out. I learned that from a tire shop. My g/f 93 corolla got that problem, i spent all day try to get the damn thing off, finally took it to the shop, and he used the hammer to get it out in 5 seconds.
Thanks guys. The wiggling thing worked easily on the front, but the back wouldn't budge, it was so aggrevating. I even tried pulling it with my friend and couldn't move it, I just assumed since it sat a little while, it probably got stuck from Rust or something. It's good to know that isn't the case though
I know this sounds crazy but give it a nice kick on one side of the tire/rim, when you have all the lugs off. Sometimes the wheel seems to form a seal with the brake rotor or whatever. It's done this a few times when I was changing my tires. I was pulling and pulling and my dad comes and makes me look like an idiot by giving it a swift kick. It kinda broke whatever seal and i was able to pull the tire off then.

The rear wheels may be stuck on, I know that I changed some rims on a civic and the stock ones had gotten almost rusted onto the rear drums. We basically just pulled like all hell and they finally budged.
The lights however, to remove them you have to take off the front grill with the toyota logo. There are 2 bolts on either side that hold them on. The headlights are held on by 4 bolts, There should be a bolt by the top of the fender, one that holds the grill, and than if you look directly into the light on the left there is a bolt that is in a small compartment. Now you have to take the corner light off. There is one screw by the fender that holds it in place, after you undo that just push the light foward and it should pop off, sometimes its pretty hard. Once that is off you should see a little nut once you remove that the lights should freely come out.

If they are rusted on just get some "Rust Off" from the local auto store or hardware store, and spray the ever loving crap out of the wheel and let it sit. Then give them a wiggle.
Ba careful kicking and hitting the wheels while you are up on a jack/stand too eh !
Helped a friend a couple weeks ago do his Cavalier front discs, he tried normal effort to get the wheels off but they wouldn't budge either. I said screw it and just took a sledge out and whacked the wheel from behind - voila - wheels popped off.
I told him to use some anti-seize compound on those areas that touch and rust.
For the headlight removal, yes remove the corner light and there is a nut on a threaded stud - all the other locations are bolts (same size socket though).
Good luck.
