3rd Generation Camry shuts off while im driving...

Can you guys help me out? I have a 92 Camry 5SFE auto. This problem started recently. Whenever im on the road the car automatically shuts off and it just drifts...I have to slow down to stop. And restart it again. It starts up fine tho'. then a few minutes later it all happens again. It feels like the fuel is getting cut off. I was cruising around 60mph when this happened. Any ideas? Thanks

I had a problem kind of like that with a 1988 Jeep Cherokee. Turned out its problem was the fuel pump, if memory serves. Dunno if that would apply to your Camry, but it's all I can come up with at present.

Probably the fuel pump. At least your car starts back up. That gives you time to get one. I blew the EFI fuse 2 times before the pump quite when I was on the freeway. Good luck.

Generally, that's either the fuel pump as others have mentioned or possibly a fuel filter that's now pretty clogged. You don't say how many miles on your car but if it's over 100,000 I would replace the filter first. If that doesn't cure the problem, then replace the fuel pump. The filter should be replaced anyway as routine maintenance every 100,000 miles or so, and it's easier and cheaper than replacing the pump.

also check the connection plug to the air flow sensor cuz ur car WILL NOT run if that is not plugged in...or it could be going bad...

another question to ask, how has ur gas mileage been the last couple weeks/month? has it slowly been getting worse up until the problem ur having now or has it stayed the same?
