Has anyone here built a "false floor" for a gen3 camry? I have my amp bolted to my back seat now, it looks alright, but I think a false floor setup would be tight. Also my 2 12" are in a sealed box and they need to fit, that is my main problem. Any help with building material, building tips, etc would be appreciated!! I think my amp's about 3-4" high.
I intend to tackle this project myself aswell. I can't imagine it being that difficult. Grab a sheet of MDF, start measuring, measure again, then start cutting. Afterwards, carpet or vinyl it and voila - false floor. Regardless, tips are welcomed.
Rayray: Could you also post a link to the instructions on how to remove the rear deck? Pls and thnx 8)
The thing is that with my 12's sitting all the way in the back of the trunk now, they near hit the top of the trunk. Is it one piece MDF on top of where the spare is, then another over the amp? Wouldnt that raise the subs like 5"? Please help I'm alittle confused and have never really seen a false floor besides pics. Thanks.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I had a pair of 12's in the trunk of my Gen3 and it was kinda tight. The only thing I can suggest is to just plan things out on paper with all the dimensions and take it from there.

haha... it's all good Phi. you seem to beat me to the punch all the time. saves me from finding the URL again anyways. i should just post all my DIY and pics on a separate topic since i've seem to gathered a few now.
i've never had any experience building any trunk installs. just thought up what would be the cheapest/easiest/fastest way to get it to look the way i want. i used 3-ply plywood cuz i didn't know how it would turn out and didn't want to spend the extra $ for quarter inch MDF. it might not look pretty going in but the end result should be nice and clean (once i get the time to actually finish this summer before it gets cold again.)
i used some 1x3's as the supports under the false floor which raises it about 3 inches from the spare wheel cover.:

i did it in 2 parts so that i could still have access to the spare. you could do it all in 1 big piece if you want. or you could even get rid of the spare altogether and have the amp use that space. that way you would not have to raise the floor and lose the trunk space.
with the sealed subs you see above, i don't have them standing up. i have them facing up in a "\ /" formation. i plan to cut them so they sit partially in the false floor giving me more trunk space.
Yea im still working on my project with the 3 Rockford Amps linked together.... work has treated me like a whore lately, and I havent found the time to even START building the false floor, but when i do, 1/4 inch MDF
Well, I was getting ready to get the materials for the false floor when it hit me, Is it safe (heat wise) to keep an amp covered in between to layers of mdf and carpeting??? I mean it has a heatsink but I believe that needs to be exposed to keep the amp cooled properly.
Do you have to add any extra cooling product (i.e. fans, etc,) when placing an amp under a false floor.
(sorry for being anul about this, but its my first system, I spend my hard earned cash, and want this to look respectable)
Yes they make fans to regulate the heat flow coming from the amps.... here is a link just so you can get an idea of what they look like...

And yes, with proper ventilation, it is safe to mount the amps between sheets of mdf and carpet
are you still going to use the factory carpets in the trunk walls? take a large peice of cardboard. and try to make a out line of the trunk walls. this way it won't look just like a peice of carpeted MDF. you trunk isn't a perfectly boxed. so instead of doing the trial and error method just trime the cardboard until you have a rough idea of how the floor should look. afterward you trace the cardboard to a peice of MDF. i hope i didn't sound to confuseing

its not manitory i had about 2000 watts in my system. never needed a fan to run. only once a RF blew up. I got myself the alpine with a built in fan. it won't hurt your setup unless your goning ot run it for a long time.
