Unhappy o/d light is blinking

Hi i got a Camery 93 LE. Its starts like a sports car, while giving acceleration in Drive gear the check engine light goes on, after driving 15 to 20 miles the speedometer goes out and after 15 to 20 more miles the o/d light starts to blink. what is going on? can some one help me out with this. the car runs fine. but why all these lights? what might be wrong?

Best Regards
Tahir

carry it to a shop or the dealership and have them put it on a scan tool, then get back to us. that should give a general idea of what is wrong

that is the code for the CEL (check engine light)

if you have a hayne's manual it gives the codes, otherwise take it to autozone, they'll pull codes for free.

your speedo going out might be an electrical shortage ... if that is the case i would say buy one from eBay with the same general number of miles...

your O/D light blinking means your tranny has something wrong with it... and i hope for your sake it isnt going in the garbage.. cause that takes some cash to get a new one and take it to the stealership

my $.02

Cool

#2 Speed sensor is going out. (That's the main one on the transmission. Why it's named #2 who the hell knows)

The back-up speed sensor (#1) is in the speedometer, operatred by the speed cable.

When the #2 and #2 signals don't match, or the #2 signal is dead for 8 seconds, the ECU will throw the code. My theory is either the main sensor from the transmission, or the #1 fail-safe is going down, and when the ECU swaps to fail safe, the cluster dies.

That's my theory anyways.
Bridge E1 and TE1 in either diagnostic port and see what code the CEL flashesh. Post it and we'll tell you what it is.

My guess is 4-2.

the blinking light could be a lot of things. I took my car in for rear main seal fixing and after that, the light came on.

i took it back and they checked and just reset it. to me, it was no big problem but definately go to Autozone and get the blinking light checked.

His car is OBD1, not OBD2. Autozone can only check OBD2 codes. He can check for the code himself using the paper clip method. The generation 3 manual at the top of this forum's home page will give him the instructions and the codes.

I think Toysrme is correct. One of the speed sensors has gone bad. I'm not sure of the price of a new one, but first get the code to varify this is the problem and then shop around to see if one is available in the aftermarket.
