replacing EGR valve

Hey Guys. Me and My dad have the same year Camry - Gen 3 1996 Le 4 bangers.

His check engine light came on and the shop says its probably the EGR valve, they want $280 US for parts and labor.

I figure I could do it for him for less, but I got a couple questions.

1 - Will the check engine light reset after I repalce the EGR valve?
2 - Anypalce I can buy one cheap, other than the stealer?
3 - I haven't actually looked for it yet - I assume its pretty straight forward, is it?

Thanks,
Greg

I've never replaced the EGR valve but, just go to your local auto parts store and get the parts there. Also, pick up a reapir manual from Toyota, Chiltons or Haynes.

It would probably be better to find out what error code the ecu is shooting out instead of replacing the EGR valve. Any reason why the mechanic said that the EGR was the culprit?

If the light doesn't reset after fixing whatever problem it is, you can usually reset it manually by taking out the EFI fuse for a few minutes.
