4th Generation shaft play?

i wanted to know what shaft play on a turbo means. also if i get a 3s-gte turbo and aftermarket manifold how much will that cost and increase the horse power.

a 3sgte turbo (you mean a ct26?) and manifold will add 0 hp.

125 front wheel horsepower with major retard issues between 4500-5200RPM -
OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.

In a nutshell, how much it "wobbles around". Because turbo's use a fluid bearing they always move a tiny amount. Ifyou can push it back and forth enough so you can feel it... Time to rebuild it.

The more play there is, the closer the compressor/turbine will get to the walls of their respective housings. Eventually they'll scrape it, shaving off compressor/wheel material as it hits (along with the housing).

While that won't out-right destroy the turbocharger, the resulting blanace change will. As it spins, they simply vibrate themselves to pieces.
