Have recently had LPG installed and after a backfire, my air flow meter has jammed open. I've taken it out and cleaned it up but the gate seems to scrape the body of the meter and keeps jamming. If I pull the gate up slightly, it moves without any resistance but I'm not sure how to keep it that way. Any ideas how to fix or will I need a new one?
About all I can say is cut the top off and try and get a good angle to look at where the flap is held on at. Maybe it slipped somehow.
LPG is really popular with yall down there. Why? Do you have like, shitloads of it?

It's about 2.5 times cheaper than regular petrol. Well, would be if it didn't break other parts of the car. When it backfired this morning, it forced the air valve open and I think it bent it slightly. I took it apart, bent back into shape but as soon as I fired the car up, another massive backfire (my fault, kept my foot on the gas before ignition ), this time bent the crap out of it. Oh well, I've got it running kinda OK on LPG but no petrol for me until I get the air flow meter replaced. I'm hoping I can pick one up from a junk yard or is this not recommended?

Power loss most noticeable under heavy acceleration although it's not too bad. If everythings working well, you can always switch to petrol to gain back performance.
On my way to work this morning, the car was struggling and at a couple of intersections, I didn't think I was going to get the car moving. I'm gonna try to replace the airflow meter as cheaply as possible today and pray to the Camry gods that it doesn't backfire and blow it to crap again.
Maybe I should try reducing the gap on the sparks to reduce chance of a misfire. To remove the back 3 sparks do I need to remove the intake manifold? Don't fancy a long mechanic session, just don't have time.
Yes, it's easyest to take the upper intake air chamber off (that's NOT the intake manifold). Otherwise, an normal elbo and a flexi shaft will help greatly.
Still cut your current AFM's top off first and check it.

Where is the AFM located ? I think I just cleaned mine and it has a diaphram controlled by vacuum and I found it between he air box and the air snorkle at the front of the car.
You don't have an AFM, you have a hot wire MAF; so this discussion is fairly well a moot point for you.
^It's the little sensor after the air box and before the throttle body.

Had already opened up AFM but everything looked OK. Doesn't matter now though as it's history. Backfire well and truly killed it. I got a recon one for AU$80 and have now removed LPG equipment until I get the car running properly as I don't wanna break this AFM. My main problem now is that everything is running like crap. It looks like one of my nice expensive platinum sparks or HT leads has shat itself and is making the car less than average to drive. Fortunately, friend at LEXUS garage is going to look into it for me and hopefully be able to get it tuned to be a little more LPG friendly. Maybe some lower temp sparks with smaller gap.
Oh yeah, and if I don't reply back again, it's because my wife's killed me for spending so much money.
Reset the ECU. Pull the EFI fuse out and stick it back in. Give it a half hour of driving around to trim the fuel out over the load range.
The new AFM probably has a slightly different output.

I reset the ECU earlier but then only drove a few minutes down the road. Will try again on the way home although looks like I may have to borrow a friends car until the mechanic looks at it. Don't fancy driving up a mountain pass in the morning with the car the way it is.
Skip the mechanic. Take a volt/multi meter and find this out:
1) What does the AFM voltage (from the VS wire. Probably yellow with a blue stripe, if you cut the AFM open, it's the one on the swinging arm) read at idle, and at WOT.
2) What's the o2 sensor votlage read

One on each o2 sensor (in each manifold). Or at the ECU, or the diagnostic port. (It's simulated there)
