you don't really need to get the needles off. you can just bend the face that you're gonna put on over and around the needles. maybe there is some easy way to take them off but i haven't found it. you're better off by sliding the face over the needle first and then positioning it correctly.

keeping the needles calibrated when you take them off is really annoying. Mine like to slip on the shaft, so if you remove them make sure you put them back where they were and don't play with the guages, you can stretch the springs. And use some sort of glue on the needle when you reinstall them. I took the needle off on my other car and I travel 20mph when my car isn't even moving, hehe.

I just installed some glow gauges in my Gen 3, and i didnt take the needles off, i got the faces off completley from the cluster, and slipped them right over the needle. when u take the old face off the cluster, ull find that the needls for RPM and Speed automatically go back to "0", thats why that little plastic piece is there to catch it, so dont worry about moving any of the needles when ur tryin to fit them over, i moved mine all over the place, and when i got it all back in, it all automatically went to the right place. THe only hard part about slippin the face over the needles, is the trip reset needle for ur mileage, wut i did was, a part of it comes off, and kinda pulled as hard as i could till i got the new faces over the bottom part of the reset needle, then put it all back together, and wall la all done, pain in the butt tho to get the freakindash off, o, just a tip that i learned the hard way, i glued my new faces on w/ superglue, it works just fine, but some ppl taped and others did other things, but either way when ur done, run ur needles all the way to the other side and let them automatically go back to "0" , that way ull kno if u need to glue one spot thats sticking up to high that it gets the needle stuff. good luck

I didn't take my needles off, or play with them, but some how when I installed my glo guages a few years ago, the gas gauge needle became stuck at one level. I could move it but it would always return to the same level, even after a refill or 200 miles of driving. I finally bought a cheap gauge cluster off of Ebay and replaced it.

its usually best to have the gauges in the car, and key turned on, before reinstalling the needles, hints why you were at 20 MPH in park. Been there, done that, but mine are about 8 miles off, so find another route and keep them on!

oh, I know exactly why it's not accurate, the cable is busted and the needle isn't fastened to the shaft. I just am too lazy to care now.

DO NOT take off the needles. Many people have done this before and they get fucked.

Just slip it through the hole, use super glue to bond it and you should be gravy, baby!

I had the problem where the needle only for the speedo got stuck so in the end i had to end up taking off the needle, my gauges have been on for months and I finally got it to work on monday. You need to have the key in to "calibrate" it, I messed mines up badly at first, but now it all seems to work and is only 2-3 MPH off what it really should be. My problem before was too much fabric glue around the needle area and it was bulky. I would try avoid taking it off.
