Camry RH Window regulator & motor needed

My 94 Camry's (4 cylinder-sedan) passenger side (RH) power window is stuck about 2" from the top. Evidently I need a window regulator and/or a motor. What's the difference here? I've taken the inside of the door off as well as unscrewed the 'window regulator' (3 nuts) and it appears I need a passenger side (RH) window regulator. I've been on eBay and reviewed what's for sale. I can get a window regulator for about $35-50-ish.
Now, I've been told locally that I need a motor AND a window regulator. What's up and who's right? This job seems tedious but doable. I'm not a Joe-fixit but I'd like to get some input here on any experienced Camry technicians! I can only see one power unit and its a Toyota 85270-06010 with AY062100-4561 on it. A Google search shows nothing under that 'part #' or ID #.
It appears that I don't have to get a new window, but I just need to be careful in doing what I do when I remove the bolts attaching the 'window regulator' to the window.
Any guidance here would be very appreciated as we'd like to get our window to be usable again. Oh, BTW, is it even possible to go manual with a power setup here? Just wondering?
Hence, the questions are
1) Window regulator vs motor... Difference and do I need 'both'?
2) Installation hints
3) eBay purchase experiences for Camry parts
4) Power to manual
5) Other insights appreciated....
TIA,
Tom

Tom,

eBay replacement is nice but sometimes they will not work. i would suggest going with original toyota parts on eBay. looking at paying $70 or so on ebay. Usually, you would need to replace the regulator (including motor). I removed the whole unit and the motor is hard to remove.

there was a thread going about some of the parts not working off eBay

Having done some additional searching, doesn't the window regulator and the motor come as a unit? That is, when I get one, I get both? I've seen some prices from $30 to $180-ish. Where'd you get your '$70 or so on ebay'? Can you reference a site or a seller that might still be selling?
You also said that "I removed the whole unit and the motor is hard to remove'. Does that mean you only needed the window regulator? If I'm going to get something, I'm feeling that I should replace everything. Right?
Also, do you need any special tools? (I have the metrics).
How did you work with the window not falling down? Did you have any help when you took things apart?
How do I really know that I'm getting ALL of what I need from eBay etc.? Where are the instructions and directions on the Web for this type of job?
TIA!!!

the regulator unit includes the motor.

if you want to remove the motor from the whole unit, i would not suggest it. thus, it's not really that expensive to replce the whole unit.

the regulator includes the track which the window goes up and down, the motor, and basically, it;s everything you need to fix a broken power window.

I bought after market unit from some JOE off eBay and I have problems with it. It is also louder than the original one before it broke.

This is one of the listing for original Toyota regulator. It is around that price for original toyota regulator off eBay. might find some cheaper one by a few $$.

What do you need?
Some basic ranches, screwdriver or something to hold the window to prevent it from falling down... and white grease (if the unit is not greased up).
I do not have a manual or instructions, I just worked on it as i progressed. Maybe somebody on TN did it and have instructions. do a search.

all the best

I presume the white grease is only applicable to the sliding track and nothing else, correct?
I've also noticed a wire leading up towards the window from the window regulator/motor. Since I haven't yet traced this, what does it connect to and is it easy to remove? My observation tonight seems to suggest that I just take the cross-bar support off and unscrew the nuts from the current window regulator/motor and window connectors. Then just reverse this. True? What gotchas have you gotten into here or what areas would you suggest that I be careful with?
Thanks for ALL your help!

Correct. Grease is for the sliding track. The item i posted might come with grease, so hold on before getting the grease.

Wires are easy to remove. It is a clip in socket that holds the wire connections together whenever the wires meet.

I think one of my main challenge was keeping the window from sliding down when I wanted to install the new regulator. I got somebody to hold the window for me.

Some help DOC

Also, check the stickie posting. There is a repair DOC there.
PM some ppl and they might be able to email it to you

Oh, before you buy a regulator, go check to see if the thing just jumped the track or it could be something that is minor that you can fix w/o buying a regulator or motor.

This is the link to autozone help doc for regulator removal

The AutoZone directions are great...with one notable exception. Why do I have to disconnect the negative battery cable when I've already disconnected the wires leading into the switch (had to do this to take off the inside door panel) and the other connections (have to do this to get the window regulator/motor out). It appears that this is an unnecessary step. Or am I 'toast' here?
Also, I've check to see that the window has not jumped the track. So it's the window regulator/motor issue. All the other windows work fine except for the passenger side and I've tried both the main switch for this window and the switch on this door.
Thanks again!!

i changed mine out without disconnecting the batt. There is no harm except to reset the clock/radio. Might be a CYA but it's good practice to disconnect batt when working on electrical.

One of the pin holding the window broke, so i had to replace the whole thing. that is why i mentioned if it jumped tracked.
