2nd Generation stop light not working

Hi guys,

Few days ago my stop light "not working" went on in my dashboard. And like a good average Joe, I went to Kragen and got New bulbs ( I changed all the back bulbs), and changed the fuse for the stop light (20 A). Well, nothing happend!! still was not working.
I decided then to replace the stop light switch, and I checked (visually) the wiring in the trunk.
So that's where I am right now. "Stop light" not working is still on in the dashboard.
I think there is a short somewhere!

At this point, I am ready to bring it to a mechanic and spend some hard earned money.

any help would be appreciated!

Hehe...my 90 Camry third brake light quit working awhile back too. I checked the obvious things, and found nothing wrong. I haven't fixed it yet, but would like to, so keep us posted.

Have you checked the light failure sensor?

Its on the left side of the trunk by the power antenna (if you have a power antenna).

IIRC its a yellow box. Might have to remove some of the trunk lining to see it.

From Toyota ewd manual:

stop light s/w:

closed (continuity) with brake pedal depressed.

light failure switch:

1, 7 - 9: 12 volts with stop light s/w on

2, 3 - 9: 12 volts with ignition s/w on

2nd Generation

I checked the light failure sensor located in the trunk, it's yellow and I have no clue if it is working or not, I have no electric sensor or tool ,or knoledge on how to check it.
SO next monday is my day off, i'll go to the junk yard and get a couple of those sensor.

Is there any other things I could check before bringing the car to a mechanic or auto electrician.
(forget Toyota dealers, just to say hello, they ask you $170!!!)

thanks guys!!

^ Open up the light failure sensor and look at the circuit board. See if any of the components or traces are burnt.
