Question about 4th Gen Intake

Hi, i was wondering if anyone who has a 4th gen, has tried puttin on just a cone air filter onto the stock piping and removing the air box? There are some sensors that are left hanging, which seems sorta unhealthy for the engine cuz they look like oxygen sensors... but i was just wondering if anyone has tried removing the entire air box and installing a cone air filter onto the stock piping. If not, what intake is good for a reasonable price? Thanks a lot!

I thought about doing that, but i found a cheap intake system for a gen 4 on ebay. The guy posts it often, he has a site also, procarparts.com I got it for about $70. Just instaled it today and it sounds good. Havent run into any problems yet =).
