4th Generation Camry maintenance price list: help me choose

1 Part Price Total

2 Timing Belt 220 220

3 Water Pump 173 393

4 Hydro Tensioner 48 441

5 Cam+Crank Seal 95 536

6 Idler Pulleys 155 691

7 3 Drive Belts 45 736

8 Tuneup 122 858

9 Fuel Filter 80 938

I called the local Toyota dealership today and got this price quote on the above maintenance on my '98 V6 Camry with 99K.
I culled the list from different posts on the forumn.
Problem is, I don't really have $1,000 right now to spend on the Camry; I'm mainly set on having the timing+drive belts and water pump done, possibly the tuneup and fuel filter to. I'd like to only spend $500-$600 right now and do the rest later.
Are any of these things easily/cheaply fixed later instead of doing them while they're already in there replacing all the belts and water pump?

Do it yourself???? I'm going to do the timingbelt and water bump on my dad 96 i4 this weekend. I heard you can get those at autozone for a good price. I don't think there's anything different between autozone and dealer. Also, autozone give you a lifetime warranty for the water bump.
I think the water bump run a round $40, but I don't know about the timing belt, anyone want to put some input????

You know how to change timing belts? Wow! Is it difficult to change it?

its not exactly a fun task. lots of details, and confined working space, dont do it unless you know what you are doing. just getting the pulley's off can prove to be too much.

The first should be done at the same time, its just easier and probably cheaper in the long run. You have to take off most of that stuff to get to the belt and pump anyway, so you might as well replace them.

At 99k miles, you may be getting to the end of your run with these parts, but as long as the car runs, you are fine. Save your money till you can get at least the first 6 on the list done. The last 3 are pretty minor. And youve found some really great prices on those, i had to pay $500 for a new water pump/timing belt.

I would do the drive belts, timing belts and water pump.
over in TX, timing belt done @ dealership is $199 w/ coupon.

i think u can get those done for less than $500 if you find the right place.

Do a search, some ppl have done it and posted it.
If not, get Haynes manual or if you have the $$, toyota repair manual on eBay ($99 on avg for 2 books)

i've got all my drive belts +timing done at dealerships for $220 (with coupons), just look out for them in the summers, see what they offer for the water pump

No need to do Hydro Tensioner, Tuneup, Fuel Filter;
as long as you replace your sparks and buy OEM ignition wires and DIY (or have a local shop do this, you can do all this for close to 500-600).

Well, I went ahead and scheduled them to do the work on Monday. Total is supposed to be around $900 with tax (odd that he quoted me a different price).
I'd seen some people post that the valve cover gasket should be replaced while all this is being done. It's close to $400 if anyone is wondering, so no I won't be having that done;-)
I thought about doing it myself (with help from my Dad), but the thought of losing the whole weekend frustrated under a car in the blazing sun and possibly screwing up something majorly was enough to make me call the dealership:-(

I just got my timing belt and water bump done today. Total cost $85 and a day with few breaks, so it's not that bad. I had helps from my uncle and his garage, since he has all the tool worth $20 grand. But this is for the 4cyl not 6.
