Hey everyone, first off don't flame me, I tried searching but couldn't really find the info I'm looking for. I've been thinking about installing dual exhaust for a while now on my Camry. I know that if I put true dual exhaust (two individual pipes) it would be good to use 2" tubing. So the question I have for those who have done that is, can it be done without significantly modding the underside of the car? I know next to nothing about working with metal, but as long as there is a place for the pipe to fit I know I can put the exhaust together. Looking at the pictures of the underside of the car in my Haynes manual, it doesn't look like a true dual exhaust will fit underneath everything very well. So the other option I am thinking about is just having the two individual pipes go to the back, and then putting a y-pipe on it before it gets to the gas tank, then straight back into the muffler. I'm also going to be getting a new muffler, what do you guys recommend? I don't want a ricey sound...I like a deeper rumble. I don't know how possible that is with a V6, but whatever I get I don't want it to be too loud when idling or just when driving normal. I think it'd be cool letting the exhuast ring out when I accelerate though, kinda like it does now that I've got an SRI on there. Any advice?
well i got duals one my i4 and all the did was split the pipe into 2 pipes and added the mufflers they split it right before were the spare wheel goes and ran the pipes around it
Ok, call me a noob, but what exactly is catback exhaust? I was under the impression that it's just exhaust that goes straight back from the catalytic converter, with no muffler. If that's what you're saying I should do, what's the benefit of that? I mean, wouldn't it be really loud without a muffler? Also at the moment there's only one cat. converter I'm sure, so what should I get for the other side / to replace the current one?
Any exhaust will be loud, most free-flowing exhausts don't even really try to deaden the sound any, they just embrace it.
You could run a muffler, if you wanted. I'm suggesting running no collector off the header or Y pipe, just run both pipes directly out the back. you'll need to make sure it's equal length though.
Orrrrr you could just make a new y-pipe. Seriously, I know people like the looks and bling of dual exhausts and all, but it's not worth the weight in pipe slung under the car performance wise.
New y-pipe, and if you *have* to have two sets of pipes comming from the ass of your car, just have some welded on...

Nah I'm not really interested in the "look" of dual exhaust. I just thought that improving the air flow out of the motor all the way back might improve how it performs. I'll probably just have it y into one pipe before it hits the wheels, then into a muffler with two tips on it. I want to buy headers for it too, how much do those cost and where can I get them?

just have a metal shop fabricate a bigger y-pipe... that will improve back-pressure a lot... also, for your exhaust ending... get a magnaflow... they make a sweet-ass dual tip one that is not DTM styled, they have them in many shapes http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=386
^check it out!

it's not quite that easy....a not well-designed larger y-pipe wouldn't help either

my y pipe (as if you havent seen it yet, its the one a flaunt around (its BLUE) is a typical straight down one like wontons (cant remember for sure)
ok top end gains, amazingly improved throttle response
im looking at remaking the collector and also making a crosspipe b4 the collector to see if i can make any more increases from it.
to get a deep sound the key is to get a LARGER muffler. the smaller the muffler the tinnier itll sound ^^
but really, if youre NOT going to get a y pipe done (headers arent worth it, put $1000 into Nitrous+ECU+spare cash) just do a resonator back with a shiney new muffler.

I did a simple dual system on mine, because I like the look of it. Simply a well designed Y-Pipe, single 2.5" piping running to the back of the car and then splits near the spare wheel well into 2 2" pipes and mufflers. It's the simplest method I could think of to get the look. Having "true" dual exhaust would be alot of fabrication, extra weight and I don't see how it would be any more beneficial than a well designed single system.

Cheap ass mufflers w/ glass packs make ur car sound like a civic and will get you pulled over for loud exhaust. What you want is a deeper sound. V6 camry's can sound sooooo good. I have a Flowmaster 50 series w/ a chrome beveled tip. The muffler itself cost $160 but it was worth it. And I paid $53 for the tip (like i said, not just a tip for looks. it actually deepened the sound significantly. And it sounds amazing. And it's pretty loud, but cops don't even look my way. Just last night a cop followed me for several miles and I was driving normal, being pretty loud. Didn't even ride my ass like he was listening.
Spend the $ and get a good muffler. it makes a world of difference.
