OD stands for Overdrive. I am not an expert in cars so I will try my best not to mess up some info... Here is how it works, if you press the OD, the panel will appear an orange light saying OD OFF. What it means is the transmittion cannot reach the forth gears. To answer your question, turning the OD off does not save you gas because your engine rev high all the time and that comsume lots of gas. Personally, I found that pressing the OD will not accelerate faster. Hope this helps
